Problem 10 2017818868

Problem 10

Problem Statement: Energy crisis is alarming and becoming a pressing

issue lately. Waste of electricity is very apparent. Estimate the cost of
electricity for all rooms in one of the buildings on your campus or as specified
by your instructor. Propose ways to overcome this problem of electrical energy
waste. What percent of this electrical energy would be considered as a waste?

Find: Estimate the cost of electricity for all rooms in Delima 1 building.
Propose ways to overcome electrical energy waste.
Percentage of electrical energy considered as waste

Data and Diagram:

1. Rooms per block : 20/118 units
2. Ceiling fan per room : 1 unit
3. T5 pendaflour :
i. Room : 2 units
ii. Sidewalk : 8 units
iii. Toilet : 7 units
iv. Stairs : 32 units
v. Lobby : 8 units
4. T5 pendaflour rating : 38 W
5. Ceiling fan rating : 25 W
6. T5 lamp time usage : 5 hours (7 p.m-12 a.m)
7. Ceiling Fan time usage : 15 hours (5 p.m-8 a.m)

Theory:

Total consumption = 𝑎𝑝𝑝𝑙𝑖𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑒 𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑔 × 𝑡𝑖𝑚𝑒 𝑢𝑠𝑎𝑔𝑒 × 𝑎𝑝𝑝𝑙𝑖𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑒𝑠 𝑛𝑢𝑚𝑏𝑒𝑟 (1)

Solution:

Pendaflour lamp

(20 rooms x 2 units per room)+ 8 (Lobby) + 32 (Stairs) + 7 (Toilets) +8(Hallway)

= 95 units

Using equation (1)

95 units x 5 hours x 38 W = 18.05 kWh

Problem 10 (continued)

Ceiling Fan

Using equation (1);

(20 rooms x 1 unit per room) x 25W x 15 hours = 7.5 kWh

Therefore, total consumption (kWh) for T5 pendaflour and ceiling fans per
day is 18.05 kWh + 7.5 kWh = 25.55 kWh

So, monthly consumption is 25.55 kWh x 30 days = 766.5 kWh

(Hallway) = 351 units

Using equation (1)

351 units x 5 hours x 38 W = 66. 69 kWh

Problem 10 (continued)

Ceiling Fan

Using equation (1);

(118 rooms x 1 unit per room) x 25W x 15 hours = 44. 25 kWh

Therefore, total consumption kWh for T5 pendaflor and ceiling fans per day
66 690 kWh + 44 250 kWh = 110. 94 kWh

So, monthly consumption is

110 940 kWh x 30 days = 3 328. 2 kWh
