In brief, they are many external factors that induce the next generation
to forget their own tradition. The Wonosari’s people do this tradition to respect
the ancestors. People especially the next generation will know how to preserve
Rejapan tradition from globalization, such as participating in ritual, maintain a
sense of solidarity, and keep the tradition alive for the next generation.
 Tradition: Inside or Outside?

In this era, many external factors induce the next generation in Indonesia to
follow it. Therefore, they forget their own cultures, customs, or traditions. In fact,
preserving the tradition is our responsibility. Indonesia has many unique traditions
to be preserved by the next generation. One of the traditions is Rejepan tradition
from Wonosari, East Java. Wonosari’s people still preserve this tradition because it
is one form of respecting the ancestors, who has brought the changes in that area.
They just held the tradition only in month of Rajab near from the Sumbing
mountain. Here are steps to preserve Rejepan tradition from globalization.
First, the next generation must try to participate in ritual. The Rejepan
tradition will be held only in month of Rajab, the date is between 10 to 15. The
ritual starts at 7.30 pm and you will walk together with Wonosari’s people to sacred
places. Then, don’t forget to bring the things needed during the ritual, like
vegetables, fruits, processed chicken, white sticky rice and put in into basket. The
Wonosari’s people do this ritual for respecting to the ancestors, he was Ki Ageng
Makukuhan. He has been believed by Wonosari’s people as a disseminator of
religious scienes in mountain area. After the ritual is done, Wonosaris’ people will
perform arts at the afternoon.
The second step is maintaining a sense of solidarity with other people. In
the villages near from slopes of Sumbing mountain, the custom consistency,
harmony, and mutual cooperation tradition still preserve. Because of that,
Wonosari’s people still routinely do the tradition every years. To maintain a sense
of solidarity you can help each other, like preparing the things needed before ritual.
Then, don’t forget to keep the communication to each other, if we don’t have good
relationship between us it will affect to the unity, harmony, etc. Try greeting to each
other when you meet one of them. It will help you to have a good relationship.
Because the Wonosari’s people still have a sense of togetherness, the ritual is still
held every once a years.
Last, keep the tradition alive for the next generation. In this era, the
influence from external factors is one of the causes of the next generation forget
their own traditions. Preserving tradition is really importance for all the clan,
include the next generation. One of the reason to keep the tradition alive is our
responsibility. Rejepan tradition has been handed down from the ancestors era. The
next generation have keep the tradition alive by do the tradition every years with
purpose to pray for the ancestors. Then, share the tradition from beginning, that way
the next generation will know the origin of the tradition and the significance of keep
tradition alive. Next, remind the importance of the tradition. The origin of Rejepan
tradition is the ancestors, who have brought the alteration to the villages. Preserving
tradition is one way to homage to the ancestors.
 Because preserving Rejepan tradition have positive result for the next
generation like, they will know the impression participating in ritual, a sense of
togetherness, the importance and the origin of the tradition. Asking the next
generation to do it, they can save them from external influence which sometimes
bring a bad influence in the future. The next generation not only keep Rejapan
tradition alive, but they can preserve others tradition in Indonesia. They can make
the next generation loves local product.
