the class about the painting and the person or event. Remind students to
make five general questions, including questions about his / her spiritual

5 MODELLING  Explain what a request is.

 The teacher gives examples of requests.

sentence after the teacher. Point out the objective pronoun me)

 Write on the board these objective pronouns: him, her, it, us, and
them. Model using objective pronouns in request such as please
give him the markers.

6 SIMULATION Speaking activity in class

Work with students to think of request they might make at home; for
example: May I please play outside after dinner? Have students express
these requests orally. Then have partners practice making and responding
to the request.

 Speaking activity in class
In pairs, students will play a role play in which they will
simulate a new student and the principal of a school.
They will talk about school rules. The student who acts
as a teacher will tell the student what he or she can
and cannot do using "may or may not" and the student
can ask questions about their rights as a student using
modal verbs.
