Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Using a flipped classroom design through the blog helps to
accommodate for all students. Through audio, video, translation, and transcription you are meeting the needs
of the visually impaired, hearing impaired, and ELL students.
Lesson idea implementation: During this lesson the students will access their flipped classroom assignment
through my classroom blog. The students will listen to the audio podcast, or read the transcript, for
instructions what to do. The students will then watch the video over the weekend on planets, become an
expert on one planet, and report their findings to the class on Monday. This will be used to introduce the
topic of planets and what we will be talking about for the next couple of days. The students will get into
groups to create a poster using the materials of their choice on the planet assigned. The students can have
the choice to use whatever technology tool they desire to create their outline of the planet this could be
through regular poster paper or through an online tool such as Popplet. The students will share their findings
on the planets through their group work, and post the posters around the room or share them through
posting them on the class website. All of the students will be able to share their work and look at each other’s
posters. I will assess the students by how they contribute to the posters and what they have found out about
their planets.

Importance of technology: Technology gives the students the advantage of researching on their own before
class. The idea of the flipped classroom is made assessable to all of the students through the blog. The
students could also use technology to create an online poster that they could share with their classmates.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: The parents could be concerned that the assignment is online, and not
allow the students to get on the internet. You can assure the students that your website is completely secure,
and they do not have to participate if they do not approve. Sending out information on your website, and
your plans of using it for the flipped classroom before you use it would be a great way to inform your students
parents and your administrators on what you have planned. This way you can get approval of the method of
teaching before starting, and help to relieve any concerns.

Reflective Practice: This activity will help the students to learn how to gather information about a subject for
research. The students could use other tools such as Popplet to create an outline of the information they
gathered about their planet.
