Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

Universal Design for Learning can be addressed using Quizlet because they offer a variety of study tools
that can appeal to the different type of learning types. The teacher can apply pictures and videos within
Quizlet for the visual learners. Quizlet can be used as a learning / studying and can transform into a formative
assessment as well. Also, Quizlet offers an opportunity for visually or hearing-impaired students to enjoy this
tool. Another helpful thing Quizlet is that the teacher can change the language for their English Language
Learners.
Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity.
Before incorporating my Student Response Tool in the lesson, I would teach the students about the
different punctuation marks and how to use them within a sentence. The students would watch a BrainPOP
video, so that they are engaged throughout the lesson and have a more visual understanding of how one is
supposed to use punctuation marks. When it is time to introduce the Student Response Tool to the class, we
would start the lesson as a large group, then the students would go back to their desk and get on either
tablets or computers to assess their knowledge.
Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
☐ Assess prior knowledge ☐ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☒ To illuminate common
misconceptions ☒ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☒ Summative assessment of content knowledge ☒ Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☐ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity:

Student Response and Assessment Tools
The students will sign into their computers or tablets and access the Quizlet account that I have available
for them. The students could complete either the learn activity, use flashcards, write out the answers,
spelling out what they see or hear, complete a test, or playing one of the two games available. I would all ow
the students to explore the different activities and games for about 20 minutes.
Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):
☒ Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☒ True/False ☐ Yes/No
☐ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response

If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10):
The questions will be available through the Quizlet game.
Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions?
☒ Yes ☐ No
☐ Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the questions and
display correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
☒ Yes
☐ No
Why or why not?
The students will have immediate corrective feedback because they need to understand what they got
wrong and be able to learn from their prior mistakes. As the educator, my job is to make sure that my
students are learning and not consistently making the same mistakes repeatedly.
Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity?
After the students complete the individual Quizlet tool, I would now have them work on the Quizlet Live,
where they are competing against the other teams in the classroom to see who will come in first or have the
most points at the end. Once this is over, the students will come back to the front carpet and I will ask the
students how they felt about the activity and I will ask them more questions about punctuation marks. During
this time, it would be a time for the students to give me feedback on the assessments.
How will the data be used?
The data that will be collected from this activity would be seeing how well the students understand how to
use punctuations marks and their purposes. As a formative assessment, this will be used by the students in
the classroom and this is something that they could use when they go home as well. Quizlet allows the
teacher to see what students have been viewing the material and who is obtaining and understanding the
information. This information would not be used toward a grade at first because it is something that will be
used to make sure that the students are comprehending what they just learned.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity.
Honestly, my personal goal for this activity is to make sure that my students are understanding the
material and having fun while all of this is going on. One thing that I am trying is incorporating a student
response assessment tool to do an assessment. I hope to learn that my students are understanding the
information and are not there for not reason. Also, it makes me happy that my students are able to use these
tools outside of the classroom.
Reflective Practice:
I feel that this lesson plan has helped my students understand the purpose and usage of punctuation
marks. I think that this was a very hands on activity and form of assessment that they students may tend to
forget that they are actually completing an assessment. To further extend this lesson, I would probably have
the students start learning about contractions and how to combine sentences using other types of
punctuations.
