Course Objectives
CO1 To understand the need of project management and deciding the right organization structure
for facilitating the success of a project.
Various project management methodologies like PMI, Prince2, Waterfall Vs Agile PM.
CO2 To understand the market and demand , technical and financial analyses for the selection and
prioritization of projects
Project life cycle and process groups in waterfall methodology.- Integration management.
CO3 To define the project scope, work breakdown structure and development of project network.
Loading, Scheduling and Allocation of Resources. Optimization of cost-time schedule and
monitoring the performance of the projects using earned value analysis.- Time, cost & Scope

CO4 To identify the project risks, contingency plans and change management system. To

To impart knowledge and skills in the art of managing projects scientifically, so as to deliver the projects
successfully.
Exposure to some of technical communication aspects, project documents, templates and introduction to
software for project management.
Syllabus:
Introduction, need for project management; Systems approach; Work definition and breakdown
scheduling and network analysis; Costing, budgeting and financial assessment; Project control and
management; Project Organisation; Leadership and teamwork; Role of computers in project
management. Managerial Communication process; Technical communication; Case analysis.
Project management plans and templates, process groups and knowledge areas.
Different methods of project management delivery, scientific analysis of various knowledge areas that
contribute to the waterfall project management. Agile manifesto, agile management, focus on SCRUM.
Course Modules
Experiential Learning:
To learn and practice planning, scheduling and control of project using MS Project software/ excel or
related software. The students are expected to prepare work breakdown structure, estimate time and
cost and plan the entire project with minute details of resources.

LO1 Differentiate project- driven and non-project driven organisation and identify your
organization type, appreciate project integration management
L02 Evaluate and select the projects. Understand the project life cycle and identify at what stage
your project is. Prepare Project Scope Statement.
L03 Identify the sources of finance. Prepare projected cash flow statement and balance sheet.
Estimate budget, plan and monitor status. Understand the relationship amongst Triple
constraints- Time, cost & Scope
L04 Design project plan and create a schedule diagram. Prepare a project plan using MS Project.
Show the task dependencies, overall schedule and allocate resources. Identify and assess
project risk and develop a risk response document. Devise contingency plan for one of the
projects you in your organization.
LO5 Create a project work breakdown structure and be able to represent it in Gantt chart. Assign
responsibilities and develop a responsibility matrix (RACI). Plan and execute procurement.
Analyse make or buy decisions. Identify types of contracts.
LO6 Understand the project quality dimensions. Identify quality process and differentiate
between quality assurance and quality control. Identify types of costs and discuss cost
of poor quality. Identify elements and tools of total quality management (TQM) and
apply to a given project.

Scrum methodology.

Students are expected to visit the Elearn portal on a regular basis and stay up to date with the latest
announcements and deadlines.
Contact sessions: Students should attend the online lectures as per the schedule provided on the Elearn
portal.
Evaluation Guidelines:
1. EC-1 consists of either two Assignments or three Quizzes. Students will attempt them through the
course pages on the E-learn portal. Announcements will be made on the portal, in a timely
manner.
2. For Closed Book tests: No books or reference material of any kind will be permitted.
3. For Open Book exams: Use of books and any printed / written reference material (filed or bound)
is permitted. However, loose sheets of paper will not be allowed. Use of calculators is permitted
in all exams. Laptops/Mobiles of any kind are not allowed. Exchange of any material is not
allowed.
4. If a student is unable to appear for the Regular Test/Exam due to genuine exigencies, the student
should follow the procedure to apply for the Make-Up Test/Exam which will be made available on
the Elearn portal. The Make-Up Test/Exam will be conducted only at selected exam centres on
the dates to be announced later.
It shall be the responsibility of the individual student to be regular in maintaining the self-study schedule
as given in the course handout, attend the online lectures, and take all the prescribed evaluation
components such as Assignment/Quiz, Mid-Semester Test and Comprehensive Exam according to the
evaluation scheme provided in the handout.
