Today in history marks the end of the Six Day War, exactly 50 years ago, and the
beginning of a long and painful era for the indigenous peoples of the Holy Land.
I am going to give 10 facts in remembrance of this catastrophe. Here me out:
1. Israel invaded Egypt, Jordan, Palestine and Syria starting in June 5, 1967, with
series of preemptive airstrikes and ground assaults. They won the war 6 days after,
redrawing their 1947 borders via capturing Sinai (Egypt), Golan Heights (Syria) and
the entirety of Palestine.
2. Since its creation in 1948, Israel violated 79 UN Resolutions including the
"illegal occupation of the West Bank". Saddam Hussein's Iraq violated 9 UN
Resolutions. Iraq was broken down into pieces in 2003, and the illegal occupation
of the West Bank is still intact 50 years and counting.
3. Most Israelis are Ashkenazi Jews, which means Jews of Eastern European descent.
According to Genealogical DNA studies, these Ashkenazi Jews have no roots in the
Middle East and are Caucasians. Other Israelis are Sephardic Jews and Arabs, who
get lesser privileges than their Ashkenazi counterparts.
4. The West Bank, the Eastern portion of Palestine, has been under Military
Occupation since 1967. Military occupation is no different from what Filipinos
experienced under Spanish colonial rule, whereas oppressive checkpoints,
unwarranted arrests, indiscriminate shooting, ID systems, evictions and frequent
demolition of homes and farmlands became a day to day experience for the
Palestinians.
5. Israeli-only settlements have been constructed inside the West Bank, evicting
original occupants replacing them with subsidized condo units for Israelis. Note
that this is done in a "foreign country" they had been occupying since 1967. This
has long been declared by UN as deem illegal under international law.
6. Despite of the international law violations, Israel remains to be the leading
recipient of US Foreign Aid amounting to an average of 3 billion dollars per year.
Non-Democratic states like Egypt, Jordan and Pakistan are the runner ups with over
1 billion per year a piece. Philippines, their greatest ally kuno, gets around 200
million per year.
7. Palestine is not a Muslim-only state but rather a Muslim-majority state. It has
Christian citizens including Maronites, one of the oldest Christian denominations.
The country has a number churches governed by bishops and priests, some of them
destroyed by IDF bombs in the past. Some Palestinian Christians fled the country,
not because of Islamism, but because of the ILLEGAL OCCUPATION.
8. Experts all over the world suggested two solutions to finally end the Israel-
Palestine conflict: ONE STATE and TWO STATE. ONE STATE means they'll merge into 1
country with both citizens having equal rights and privileges. TWO STATE means
Palestine will co-exist with Israel provided that all the Israeli-settlements
inside Palestine will be vacated. Apparently Israel is interested in NONE OF THESE
TWO.
9. The Palestinian Liberation Organization is not a sectarian resistance group but
rather a secular popular resistance against the OCCUPATION OF PALESTINE, and not
the destruction of Israel. They have had Non-Muslim members including Christians,
communists and other freedom fighters. They remind me of our Katipunan.
10. Gal Gadot portrayed Wonder Woman just recently, a demi-goddess bounded to
defeat the god of war Eres and bring peace on Earth. But the actress was a soldier
of Israel Defense Force from 2005-2007, that invaded Lebanon in 2006 and lost the
war. She also supported the bombing and invasion of Gaza in 2014 that resulted to
over 2,000 deaths including over 500 children. The IRONY OF WONDER WOMAN.
If you think facts like these do not belong to the "civilized" 21st century, then
you can actually do something about it. Yes YOU! There is a global call around the
world called Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) Movement similar to how the
people broke down Apartheid South Africa, which aims to pressure Israel to accept
either of the two solutions that are said to end the Israel-Palestine conflict. LET
US BRING PEACE TO THE HOLY LAND, JOIN US!
