IMS private user ID (IMPI)
• The key to an IMS user’s subscription is the IMS private user ID (IMPI). It is owned by
the operator and assigned by him to an IMS subscription. The IMPI is used IMS-
internally, for registration, authorization, administration, and accounting purposes, but
not for routing of SIP messages. The IMPI may be preconfigured.

IMS public user ID (IMPU).

• Addressing an IMS subscriber within IMS is done via the IMS public user ID (IMPU).
The basic IMS software supports one IMPU per IMS subscriber. An IMPU is
associated with a service profile, which is a part of the user profile. The service profile
defines the services an IMS user has subscribed to and the attributes how the
