OUR WORLD NEEDS INTERFAITH UNDERSTANDING AND COOPERATION

2009 Dear Friend,

Board of Directors
Thanks to our faithful supporters, Interfaith Works continues to present programs and events
Alexa Johnson that engage hundreds of Thurston County residents in service, advocacy, study, and dialogue.
Marge Johnson
Just last month, in response to a homicide at Lattin’s Cider Mill, IW conducted a Moment of
Barnett Kalikow Blessing, a public ceremony to reclaim the place of violence as a place of life and peace, and to
Richard Miles bring comfort and healing to the victim’s neighbors, family and friends. “Thank you so much for
Mustafa Mohamedali creating healing in our community,” said one community member. “… we have come to Lattin's
regularly with all of our kids for over 20 years. This feels close to home.”
Kathleen Peppard
Our contributors have made this and other work possible:

FOND FAREWELL
Interfaith Works wishes a fond farewell to Reverend Mary Olney-Loyd, pastor of First Christian Church.
She will be leaving her post there at the end of this year, where she has served since summer of 2003.
Mary brought a strong sense of service to the congregation, helping them become deeply involved in min-
istries to the homeless and marginalized, particularly in downtown Olympia. An early and strong proponent
of Camp Quixote, under her leadership First Christian was one of the first congregations to host the camp.
Her congregation has continued annually hosting IW’s Emergency Overflow Shelter, and this year they
provided 10 weeks of continuous shelter for families during summer months.
Mary will be missed by many. Her infectious smile and cheerful nature brighten any gathering. Her commit-
ment to serving and helping others is an example for her church and for the wider community. When asked
where she will be going next Mary answered, “God hasn’t told me that yet.” Wherever she goes, we can be
sure that Mary will be found in the forefront of those working to make her community a better place for eve-
ryone. Blessings and Good luck, Mary, as you journey forward!
