Planning & Reflecting Conversation Planned/Focused Observation Co-Planning

Talking together to support your
thinking and growth as a professional feedback on a particular area of your
educator.
An opportunity for reflection and
choice. Often there is a
pre-conference, so that the coach is
aware of the teacher’s questions and
goals. The teacher teaches as the
coach observes (live or video). There
is a reflecting conversation soon
after, which often leads to planning
next steps for goals.
A formal or informal opportunity to
plan together for the maximum
benefit of students. Often relates to a
new strategy or content area for the
teacher, use of data in planning, or an
area the teacher wants to reflect
upon or make adjustments in
instruction.

Modeling & Co-Teaching Cycle
The instructional coach models a
lesson. Next, the classroom teacher
teaches the same or a similar lesson.
There can be questions and feedback
during the lessons or it can be done
after. A reflecting conversation
generally follows the lessons to
support new learning for the teacher.

Student/Class Data Analysis Support
An opportunity to organize and
reflect on student data and
information gained from
assessments in order to create an
instructional plan/EL plan for
individual students/student groups,
or to create an instructional plan for
whole/small group instruction for the
entire class.
Book Study/Article Review
An individual or group opportunity to
deepen knowledge and broaden
perspectives of best practice
strategies and bigger educational
ideas with support.
Additional Instructional Rounds
An opportunity to reflect and discuss
best practice after concretely seeing
strategies and teaching behaviors in
a real life setting.
