Product description
KUKA.Sim Layout KUKA.Sim Layout is a program for creating 3D layouts with KUKA robots. It
allows different layouts, drafts and robot tasks to be quickly and easily created
and compared with each other. With its extensive component library and
Plug&Play functionality, it is the ideal simulation software for sales teams for
producing concept studies and accessibility analyses without cycle time spec-
ifications.
KUKA.Sim Pro KUKA.Sim Pro is used for the complete offline programming of KUKA robots.
This product allows the analysis of cycle times and the generation of robot pro-
grams. It also enables a real-time connection to the virtual KUKA robot con-
troller (KUKA.OfficeLite). KUKA.Sim Pro is additionally used for building
parametric components and defining kinematic systems, which can also be
used in KUKA.Sim Layout. KUKA.OfficeLite is included in the KUKA.Sim Pro
package.
KUKA.Sim Pro comprises the functionality of KUKA.Sim Layout together with
an additional application programming interface (.Net API). This interface en-
ables other development environments (e.g. C#) to trigger and influence the
simulation in different ways (e.g. starting and controlling).
In addition, CAD importers are available in KUKA.Sim Pro.
The KUKA.Sim component library is a local database that contains over 1,000
typical layout components (robots, grippers, fences, etc.) for KUKA.Sim. It is
installed together with KUKA.Sim.
An update of the local KUKA components (e.g. new robot types) is carried out
automatically as soon as the computer is connected to the Internet.
Use The KUKA.Sim software is used for creating 3D layouts with KUKA robots
(KUKA.Sim Layout) and also for the offline programming of KUKA robots
(KUKA.Sim Pro).
Misuse Any use or application deviating from the intended use is deemed to be misuse
and is not allowed. The manufacturer cannot be held liable for any damage re-
sulting from such use. The risk lies entirely with the user.

Description Installation in Silent mode differs from the standard installation: once the setup
file has been started, no further actions are required and the installation is car-
ried out automatically.
Starting the installation in Silent mode constitutes unconditional acceptance of
the license agreement.
The following procedure describes the work steps for silent installation of
KUKA.Sim Pro. The installation procedure for KUKA.Sim Layout is compara-
ble with that for KUKA.Sim Pro.
Fig. 3-5
Description The work steps for conventional uninstallation of KUKA.Sim Pro are described
in the following figures. The uninstallation procedure for KUKA.Sim Layout is
comparable with that for KUKA.Sim Pro.
Procedure 1. In the Windows Start menu, select Control Panel > Programs > Pro-
grams and Features. The list of installed programs is displayed.
2. Select the corresponding version of KUKA.Sim. Click on Uninstall and an-
swer the request for confirmation with Yes.
3. To continue the process, click on Next.
During the uninstallation of a single PC license, the license key for
KUKA.Sim installation is automatically deactivated on the activation serv-
er. After completion of the uninstallation, the license key is then available
for reinstallation on another PC and can be activated there.
Fig. 3-6
4. Activate the check box for “Deactivate the license key” to enable the trans-
fer of the single PC license to another PC. Then click on Next to deactivate
the license key.

then valid for this computer only. It can also be transferred to a different
computer.
Network license:
The license is assigned by a license server.
A license server must be set up which can be accessed across the network
by the computer on which KUKA.Sim is installed.
Test license
The license is sent by e-mail and is free of charge. This license can be
used to test KUKA.Sim for 14 days.
Description The license is on the PC on which KUKA.Sim is used. It is then valid for this
computer only. It can also be transferred to a different computer. For a speedy
transfer, Internet access is required.
Description Activation of KUKA.Sim is carried out on the computer (PC) following installa-
tion and is only possible with a license key.
Procedure 1. Start KUKA.Sim. The window for activating the license opens automatical-

PC. As long as a license remains requested by a PC, this license is allocated
to this PC. When KUKA.Sim is closed, the license becomes available again
and can be accessed by another PC.
A license server is required to manage the network licenses.
Precondition The license server can be installed on any available network PC running Win-
dows XP or higher. It is recommended that installation is performed with ad-
ministrator privileges. “Microsoft Management Console” (MMC) should be
installed on the license server. The software can be downloaded from the Mi-
crosoft website. In addition, “.NET framework 3.5” or higher should be in-
stalled.

Description The network license can be temporarily loaned to a local computer. The bor-
rowing period can be freely chosen but must not exceed 90 days.
The network license is no longer available on the network for the borrowing pe-
riod. For this reason, no connection to the network server is required for use
of the borrowed licenses for the duration of the borrowing period. When the
borrowing period has expired, the network license automatically becomes
available again on the network.
