Unit 1: Health and Fitness
1. Description of the class:
Students:
Students are adults at the age from 16 to 18 years old. The suitable level for these is the level of Pre-intermediate. They
are studying in the English Centre in Ho Chi Minh City. At this level, most of students have privilege to study simple
skills in Writing, Reading, Listening, and Speaking with the intimate method. In fact, at the high school, most of them
do not have many chances to practice writing and speaking skills due to the limited time in the class. It is likely that they
are usually focused on vocabulary, listening or reading than speaking and writing. However, they are seen to be
confused and do not know how to write a right sentence or some of them have deep desirable to describe something
around them. At the age of high school, almost students have an exceptional ability to intimate adults. Therefore, they
absolutely take an exploration new things to share or create their though to their dearest and nearest. Besides, parents
always want their children become a master English in this global trade, so they have registered for them to study in this
class.
Students at this course are likely at the same level. With the active and curious, it is not difficult for them to catch up
with the lesson quickly. As a consequence, the activities for them must be diversified and attractive. Instead of sitting at
the table to study, the students will develop their English by expression their flexibility to enjoy the funny games that
relevant to their lesson, teachers combine theoretical lessons with various attractive games to make the lesson more
interesting and students can be more skillful in English.
Before entering this class, students had a similar level exam to evaluate their ability. At this level, students are able to
understand what teacher told, and can guess the meaning the new words. Besides, they have good awareness in the class.
Also, at this level, students have tendency to well done in pair as well as group of four, to share and correct mistake
together. The drawbacks of this age are lack of attention, patient, stubborn, sometimes also unreasonable and a
knowledge in both vocabulary, grammatical structures. Student will not understand clearly the lesson when teacher just
use English so a keen on English teacher should combine the body language, and explain new words by simple sentence
with vocabulary they learned. Moreover, the teacher helps students to remember the lesson at the class time because they
do not have lots of time to learn and practice at home, especially in the modern life. It should be stressed that the
students might be shy and afraid to join class activities, in this situation, teachers should encourage their students to
express themselves and their thinking in front of the class to expand on and improve their English skills confidently.
Setting:
The class has 25 students including 7 boys and 18 girls at the pre-intermediate level. They attend the class 2 days per
week at 6:30 pm to 8:30AM on Saturday and Sunday during 18 weeks. Each class lasts 120 minutes: the first 60 minutes
for the main lesson, 15 minutes for breaking time; later 40 minutes for practicing the lesson and correct the homework;
the last 5 minutes for brushing up on the lesson.
Classroom is set up with the adequate facilities such as projector, speakers, microphone, air-conditioner, and water to
support both teachers and learners to have an efficiency class. Moreover, the room is large and airy for the students to
join the dynamic activities. There is a wide range of educational materials and learning tool as pictures, flashcards.
Center also prepare some electric devices (such as smart phone, IPad, tablet). Especially, there are also lots of stickers
and small gift for the best students.
After the course, students will be able to develop their English skills in all four skills fluently (Listening, Reading,
Writing, and Speaking), enlarge their vocabulary and learn new grammar points, as following details:
Vocabulary: through different topics, students will strengthen their vocabulary related to the topics, understand
clearly the meaning, kind (V, N, Adj, Adv, Prep …) for using in the right situation.
Pronunciation: by listening to various sources of native English materials and watching native English speaker,
students can get used to English sounds and notice how native speakers move their mouth and lips (notice in
stress, vowel, consonant, ending sound).
Grammar: during the course, students will be taught a various type of structures related to the lesson. They will
have privilege to practice with these point of grammar points.
Listening and Speaking skills: this course aims to improve ability in communication of students, so both
listening and speaking are focused. Children are offered numerous of opportunities to raise the skills.
Reading and Writing skills: in this course, applying the vocabulary is fundamental condition for the students,
then they will be directed some of excellent method the read text or building a sentence, short paragraph improve
writing and reading skills.

Inside Out.
Lesson background:
The previous lesson is Unit 4-Spend, they have learnt about presents, clothes and shopping (e.g. boots, earrings, trousers,
etc.), some verb phrases: (e.g. get dressed, get changed, clothes fit you, etc.)
And learnt the present simple questions (e.g. What is this? Do you recycle your clothes? etc.). They can be talking about
clothes and shopping time.
3. Objectives:
Knowledge:
- Know the name of the sport and fitness (hiking, sightseeing, lie on the beach, etc.)
- Make simple sentences using these words
- Use “HOW + adjective/ adverb” to ask something related sport and fitness habits
- Use “HOW + long/often/far/fast/many/much/well” to ask to their partner in speaking about sport and fitness.
- Pronounce useful phrases (Be careful, Be patient, Don’t give up, etc.) correctly
Skills:
- Apply “How + adjective/ adverb” structure and sport and fitness to talk about their habits
- Talk about sport and fitness in their life
- Write a habit which student loves
6. Homework/Assignments:
The teacher will require students to practice at home by writing about their experiences of doing sport at school depends
on vocabulary learnt. Students prepare for the next week about Listening and Grammar.
