b) Linux
Linux is a Unix-like and mostly POSIX-compliant computer operating system (OS) assembled
under the model of free and open-source software development and distribution. The defining
component of Linux is the Linux kernel , an operating system kernel first released on October 5,
1991 by Linus Torvalds . The Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU / Linux to describe
the operating system, which has led to some controversy.
3.0 The latest open source application software
3.1 Meaning of open source application software
An application program (app or application for short) is a computer program designed to perform
a group of coordinated functions, tasks, or activities for the benefit of the user. Examples of an
application include a word processor, a spreadsheet, an accounting application, a web browser, a
media player, an aeronautical flight simulator, a console game or a photo editor. The collective
noun application software refers to all applications collectively. This contrasts with system
software, which is mainly involved with running the computer. Applications may be bundled
with the computer and its system software or published separately, and may be coded as
proprietary, open-source or university projects.
a) GIMP
GIMP an acronym for GNU Image Manipulation Program is a free and open-source
raster graphics editor used for image retouching and editing, free-form drawing, resizing,
cropping, photo-montages, converting between different image formats, and more
specialized tasks.
b) Blender
Blender is a professional free and open-source 3D computer graphics software product used for
creating animated films, visual effects, art, 3D printed models, interactive 3D applications and
video games. Blender's features include 3D modeling, UV unwrapping, texturing, raster graphics

The use of computing devices in everyday life, not only at a desk. Also called "ubiquitous
computing," it includes laptops, tablets, smartphones, wearable devices, appliances and sensors.
Pervasive computing implies that people are not necessarily aware of every information-
gathering unit surrounding them.
5.2 Examples of pervasive computing
Smart Tv
A smart TV, sometimes referred to as connected TV or hybrid TV, is a television set or set-top
box with integrated Internet and "Web 2.0" features, and is an technological convergence
between computers and television sets and set-top boxes. Besides the traditional functions of
television sets and set-top boxes provided through traditional broadcasting media, these devices
can also provide Internet TV, online interactive media, over-the-top content, as well as on-
demand streaming media, and home networking access.
Asus Zenwatch
Asus first unveiled the ZenWatch, a budget-friendly, Android Wear powered smartwatch we
were definitely impressed.Asus decided to go with a rectangular design and rounded edges,
instead of a round device like Motorola and LG have done. Despite that, they somehow managed
to create an attractive, and visually stunning device.
6.0 Conclusion
In conclusion, the present generation should know about how to use the application or gadget
that can be used as soon as possible. Therefore we must be clever set of open source software
and closed source software.
