5. Eligibility for Application
* Basically the same with the one set by NIIED
1) Applicants and their parents must hold foreign citizenship.
* Korean citizens, including those who hold dual citizenship, are NOT eligible to apply.
2) Applicants must be under 40 years of age as of Sep. 1st, 2017 (born after Sep. 1st, 1977).
* Professors who are from ODA assisted country must be under 45 years of age as of Sep. 1 st,
2017(born after Sep. 1st, 1972)
3) Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree as of Aug. 31st, 2017.
* (Important) Applicants who have completed a degree, Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctoral, in
Korea are NOT eligible to apply. However, Applicants who have been enrolled at Korean universities as
exchange students are eligible to apply. a KGSP scholar who has graduated or will graduate from a Korean
university as of August 31st, 2017 can apply for this program again only via the embassy (re-application
is limited to one instance).
* Applicants who apply for the Master’s program must hold a Bachelor’s degree or a diploma that is
equivalent to or higher than a Bachelor’s degree.
* Applicants who apply for the Doctoral program must hold a Master’s degree or a diploma that is
equivalent to or higher than a Master’s degree.
* Applicants who are expecting to obtain the relevant required degree or diploma by August 31 st, 2017
must submit a certificate of degree or diploma expectation, and submit the official certificate of degree or
diploma to NIIED by August 31st, 2017.
4) Applicants must maintain a grade point average (G.P.A.) of at least 2.64 on a 4.0 scale, 2.80 on a
4. 3 scale, 2.91 on a 4.5 scale, or grades/marks/score of 80% or higher from the previously
attended institution. If an applicant does not satisfy the above GPA criteria(80%/100%),
he/she will be disqualified from applying to this program.
* If the transcript is not indicated in grades/marks/scores format, or is difficult to convert into
percentages, attachment of official explanation from the attended institution is required .
5) Applicants should be in good health, both mentally and physically, to stay in Korea for an
extended period of time.
* Applicants must submit the Personal Medical Assessment, or Form 8 when he/she applies for this
program, and when orientation, an Official Medical Examination will be done by the NIIED. A serious
illness (For example, HIV, Drug, etc.) will be the main cause of disqualification from the scholarship.
* NOT Eligible: those who are pregnant
6) Those who had withdrew from the scholarship after being selected as KGSP grantees in
previous years are NOT eligible to apply.
7) Applicants who have Korean proficiency or English proficiency may be given preference.
8) Applicants who apply for natural science and technology program may be given preference.
6. Required Documents
* Documents must be original, placed in a separate envelope.
* Documents not in English or Korean must be accompanied by a complete English or Korean
translation authenticated by the issuing institution or notarized by a notary’s office.

* All application documents must be either in Korean or in English
- Dual applications are not accepted. Applicants must apply for KGSP via only one
institution.
* Documents in any other languages must be accompanied by a complete Korean or English
translation, authenticated by the issuing institution or notarized by a notary public.
* Submitted documents will not be returned to the applicants.
* Application documents must be presented in their original forms
* The application documents must be submitted in the order of the checklist on the first
page of the application form. Each required document must be numbered and labeled on
the top right corner as the following.
- Example: 9. Bachelor’s Diploma
* In case of submitting photocopied documents, applicants MUST have the copies notarized
or apostilled and then submit the notarized or apostilled copies.
* All the documents should be measured up to the A4 paper size.
* In case of applicant’s name, spell of name in application form must be equal with passport.
* In case of submitting the original documents that cannot be reissued, applicants are advised
to submit notarized or apostilled copies of the original documents.
* Applications that contain incomplete or forged documents will be disqualified and the
application in its entirety will be discarded.
Applicants who are expected to graduate from their respective home undergraduate/graduate
institutions by August 31st, 2017, should submit the certificate (or letter) of expected
graduation issued by said institutions when they apply; the official certificate of graduation
should be received by NIIED by August 31st, 2017.
* Applicants may submit the copies of published papers, if available.
* Applicants may submit the copies of awards, if available.
* The proofs of citizenship include, but are not limited to, the following:
- A birth certificate issued by the government of the applicant’s country;
- A certificate of family registration issued by the government of the applicant’s country; or
- Passport copies of the applicant and parents.
* The scores of the language proficiency test must be valid at the time of applying.
* Applicants must submit ONE original application documents.
