High Performance Buildings in the Market
The LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental
Design) Rating System and certification program,
developed by the U.S. Green Building Council,
is the most prominent pathway for the design,
construction, and operation of high performance
sustainable buildings in the market today.

Legrand Product Contribution to LEED
This guide is specific to LEED 2009 and v4 for Building Design and Construction: New Construction and
Major Renovation.
Users of this Guide are encouraged to take advantage of the “check-list” design throughout and Wish List at
the end as shown below. As you review the categories and credits Legrand’s products contribute to, mark “Your
Choice” to build your list of desirable products (pages 6-12). You can then use the Wish List (pages 16-18) to
summarize your product selection and contact a Legrand sales representative with your order.

Lighting load has been determined to be 20% of the building’s energy use, as analyzed by NREL and the Department of
Energy. By combining use of all 3 technologies, lighting load can be significantly reduced by an estimated 70%
2
Plug and process loads have been determined to be 33% of overall building energy use by NREL and the Dept of Energy. Use of plug load controls
can reduce this by 1/3rd. http://www.nrel.gov/docs/fy13osti/54175.pdf

Legrand solutions may be combined to bring power, light, data, and AV to your outdoor space, extending
the usable space of your sustainable building, further improving site sustainability, enhancing energy
management and increasing occupant well-being. The design and development of safe and productive
outdoor spaces may qualify for an innovation credit. We are always receptive to working with our customers
to help them achieve innovation credits. Contact a Legrand representative to find out more about how you
can implement this concept in your LEED project.

At Legrand, commitment to performance and sustainability is at our core. We build
energy and water efficiency and waste reduction into everything we manufacture.
We continually monitor and reduce our resource use and evaluate the environmental
impact of our products through their life cycle. The result: Our innovative products
and systems enable high-performance buildings to reach exceptional levels of
efficiency and productivity – and equally high sustainability standards.
Reduction of Hazardous
Product Transparency Supplier Engagement
Materials
At Legrand, we strive to manage energy, waste and water better. 34% better.
That’s how much we reduced our energy intensity across 14 US sites from
2009–2013. We want to get even better so we set new goals for all North
American sites: reduce energy intensity by another 25%; reduce water
consumption by 25%; and achieve zero waste to landfill by 2022. Better for us
and the environment.

CONTINUING EDUCATION MODULES
LEED professionals are required to complete Continuing Education Hours in
order to maintain their LEED accreditation. To that end, Legrand offers
2 learning modules that are approved for CEU hours by GBCI.
Module 1
The expectation for better products, better systems, and better buildings has created
demand for reliable disclosure methods for the health and environmental impacts of
building materials. This course will explore the product transparency movement in terms of
environmental product declarations, in particular the product environmental profile (PEP).
An overview of how a PEP is created, the basic terms used in a PEP, and a part-by-part
review of a sample PEP are presented.
