1.0 INTRODUCTION:

This manual contains installation and operating instructions for MTC™ CALIBRATION PROGRAM
developed by M/s Nagman Instruments & Electronics (P) Ltd. and is not a calibration procedure. The MTC
Cal software has been designed to assist the technicians in calibrating MTC Series temperature instruments.
NAGMAN SOFTWARE MANUAL

The package runs on an IBM compatible computer and is “single user“ for a “stand alone PC”. By using this
package the computer takes over a number of time consuming activities, such as the conversion of the various
engineering units, the calculation of the output value of an instrument at a certain input value and the
calibration errors. This allows the calibration to be carried out more quickly, with smaller chance of errors.
During the calibration the results are displayed on the monitor so that the technician can see directly what is
going on. Thus he can decide to make an adjustment for an optimal result, after completion of calibration
.Calibration report can be printed containing all the data, which are of relevance for the calibration concerned.
The reports are stored in a data file and always available as reference material.

The package offers the possibility to read the calibration data automatically. This can be achieved by means of
calibration standards, which are equipped with RS-232 interface and data acquisition. If the instrument that
generates the reference value equipped with an RS 232 interface, then the package can take over the control of
this instrument. In this way a completely automatic calibration system can be composed. It is always possible
to perform the calibration manually.

A combination of manual entry / setting and automatic reading is also possible. Copies of reports already
stored can be printed. It is also possible to generate overviews of calibrated instruments. The risk of errors is
reduced, as the user must enter all relevant data successively so that no data can be forgotten. We advise the
starting MTC Cal user to read the following chapters to know about the MTC Cal Software package.

 Chapter on installation.
 Chapter on file structure.
 Chapter on password management.
 Chapter on instrument management.
 Chapter on calibration standards management.
 Chapter on performing the calibration.

1.1 GENERAL INFORMATION:

The MTCCal–Temperature program is designed to perform temperature tests and to calibrate temperature
sensors using MTC equipment with RS–232 communication ports.
NAGMAN SOFTWARE MANUAL

The software comes on a CD-ROM. Knowledge of the MTC equipment and system to be tested is essential in
order to obtain the maximum benefit from this program. Knowledge of Windows® programs in general is an
advantage.

Note: when installing on Microsoft Windows NT® and Microsoft Windows® 2000 Professional, you must
have Administrators privileges. If not please contact your local System Administrator
1.3 REINSTALLING MTCCAL-TEMPERATURE:

The installation program detects whether MTCCal-Temperature is already installed on the PC. MTCCal-
Temperature. The new installation overwrites the old installation (program files only, not databases). Databases can
still be used. If a complete reinstallation is required, including empty databases, the old installation must be deleted
manually before the new version of the program is installed.
1.4 CONNECTING MTCCAL-TEMPERATURE TO A MTC DEVICE:

MTCCal-Temperature can be connected to a MTC calibrator and / or MTC using a serial connection
(RS232). The MTC device must therefore be equipped with a serial communication port. The device should be
connected to a free serial port on the PC - please refer to the PC manual for further information regarding the
location and appearance of serial ports. Use the serial cable supplied with the device.

NOTE:
 The MTC device must be switched off when connecting the cable from the PC.
 The MTC device and the PC must be earthed to avoid noise interference and damage to the equipment .
1.6 STARTING THE MTCCAL–TEMPERATURE PROGRAM
WINDOWS95/98/XP®

 Click Start.
 Select Programs.
 Select MTC Cal
 Select MTCCal
MTCCal-Temperature will begin by displaying a welcome screen while the rest of the program is loading. Once
the program has been loaded, the system will open a window in which you must select a user.

6.5 EXECUTE CALIBRATION:

Click “Execute calibration” tab and the following screen will appear.

Enter the Band Width of the calibrator

NAGMAN SOFTWARE MANUAL

Note: Band Width defines the deviation between the set point given to the Controller and the actual reading of
controller. If the value of bandwidth is least, the calibration accuracy will be better.

Enter the Stability time of the calibrator.

Note: Stability Time is the time for which the actual output of the controller should fall within the bandwidth. It is
given in terms of number of seconds. Software will take the reading of the calibrating instrument if the input is
stable at least for this period.

Tag No:
Enter the Instrument’s Tag number, which is to be calibrated. Input and Output standards will be automatically
retrieved from the database. The screen follows.

Calibration Mode
Calibration can be performed either automatically or semi automatic or manually. Depending on the selection we
have to enter data.

A. Automatic:
Software will assign the input values to perform calibration both Ascending & Descending as per the selection of
number of steps required.
NAGMAN SOFTWARE MANUAL

For Example:
Click “Automatic” in the mode of calibration and connect the instrument to be calibrated. Then click on “Start”
Button. The following screen will appear.

After Calibration the following screens will appear.

B. Performing the Manual calibration:

1. Enter the bandwidth and stability time in the calibration parameters

2. Select mode of calibration as manual and calibration options as both.

3. Then follows as mentioned in the Automatic Calibration

4. Click the “Start” button to start the Semiautomatic and Automatic calibration. The System starts take the reading
automatically according to specified calibration set.

5. When the calibration process has executed last step in the table, the process is complete
Stop:
Click “Stop” to abort the currently running calibration.
Close:
Click “close” to Quit from the calibration screen.

This option will help to take printouts for various tag numbers of same instrument type that are calibrated earlier.

After completion of the calibration process, report will be automatically generated. The report is saved by clicking
“report’ button. The following screen will appear. The Report form can be accessed in two ways. They are:

Once the final calibration is carried out the Report button will be enabled so that the calibration report for that
particular instrument can be taken on line. Click “View Report” to View the Calibration Report. The following
screen will appear. The report can be viewed at any time when required and also possible to get print out. Print
option will be available in the associated screen. In the “Execute Calibration” from File menu it is possible to go to
report form by choosing the “Report Print” option. This will help us to view and take print out of calibration report
of instruments.
