1 (a) Find the Laplace transform of a square wave current of amplitude A and period

2 (a) A series RL circuit with R=100Ω and L=20 H has a DC voltage of 200 volts
applied through a switch at t=0. Find (i) the equation of the current and voltage
across the different elements (ii) the current at t=0.5 sec. Plot all equations to a
suitable scale. [1]
(b) A step dc voltage is applied to an RLC series circuit. Obtain the conditions
under which the transient current will be (i) over damped (ii) under damped (iii)
oscillatory (iv) critically damped [1]
3 (a) State, explain and illustrate (i) Norton’s theorem (ii) maximum power transfer
theorem applied to ac circuits

zero current through 10 Ω resistor

4 (a) Derive an expression for equivalent inductance for parallel coupled circuit (two
inductances connected in parallel) [1]
(b) Two coupled coils L1=20 mH, L2=10 mH and K=0.6, are connected in four
different ways: series aiding, series opposing and parallel with both arrangements
of winding sense. Obtain the equivalent inductance in each case [1]
5 (a) Find the inverse transform of the following functions

(b) Assume the voltage impulse response of a circuit can be modeled by the
triangular waveform shown in Fig. 3. The voltage input signal to this circuit is the
step function 10u(t) V.
i) Use the convolution integral to derive the expressions for the output voltage.
ii) Sketch the output voltage over the interval 0 to 15 s.
iii) Repeat parts (i) and (ii) if the area under the voltage impulse response stays the
same but the width of the impulse response narrows to 4 s.
iv) Which output waveform is closer to replicating the input waveform: (ii) or (iii)?
Explain.
