ATPDraw version 5.

x for Windows 9x/NT/2000/XP/Vista

=============================================
If you are unsure what to install, select always the LATEST version.
Older versions are kept in the archive just for safety reasons, i.e.
if you experience something fatal with the new version, you have a chance
to make a test with an older one.
Note that Version 5 was substantially updated and some core features
were modified. A new project file format is introduced to allow larger
components and update to the pkzip 2 compression standard. New support
and project file formats were introduced (.ACP). Backward compatibility
is ensured but not farward compatibility provided. i.e. an ACP file created
in v.5 can not be used in earlier program versions. The sup-files much used
in previous versions, are now only used when a component is created.
For more details see ATPDraw.chm and Readme.pdf.
ATPDraw50_install.zip - Complete installation package. Run setup.exe.
ATPDraw50_image.zip - Complete installation package. Extract all files,
keep default folder names.
ATPDraw5*p*.zip - Latest patch file. Includes the corrected copy of
ATPDraw core files (.exe, .scl, .hlp, .cnt)
ATPDMan3r3.zip - includes the ATPDraw User' Manual 3.5 (October 2002).
ATPDraw 5 User Manual Updates.pdf - introduces new program features in version 5
(November 2007)
Installation
------------
1/a Installation of an ATPDraw patch file (ATPDraw5*p*.zip). GOTO 7)
1/b Installation of the compressed distribution (ATPDraw50_image.zip).
Extract all files by keeping default folder names. If you have an
earlier version of ATPDraw 4.x specify a new ATPDraw folder
for version 5 then GOTO 4.
1/c Installation of the complete distribution (ATPDraw50_install.zip).
If you have an earlier version of ATPDraw 4.x installed specify a new
ATPDraw folder for version 5 when the install wizard queries the
folder name.
2. Copy ATPDraw50_install.zip into a TEMP directory and unzip the file.
3. Run SETUP.EXE
Specify ATPDraw home directory. Avoid usage of directory names with
"space", like C:\Program Files. Use C:\ATPDraw5 instead. "Space" is
OK for ATPDraw, but not for ATP. Who is familiar with tilde "~" format
(8.3 format of long file names) can overcome this limitation easily, if
installation outside of "Program Files" is not honored by your IT staff
or preferred by yourself.
4. When you run ATPDraw.exe v5 first time, the program will create the necessary
system folders. You may copy existing files in your old /USP, /MOD and /Proje
ct
into the new folders. Even if you do not have USP objects it advised to creat
e
an (empty) /USP sub-folder under ATPDraw main folder because old project file
s
with USP objects may need this folder to run properly.
5. Copy ATPDraw.ini of the previous version (4.x) into the system folder
of the new ATPDraw ver 5.x. This will save ATP|Edit Commands (and other) sett
ings
if you modified default values earlier. This might require re-specification o
f
the default directories under Tools|Option/Directories.
6. Ensure compatibility with ATP (TPBIG.EXE).
Check contents of batch files runATP_*.bat and
"Programs settings" under Tools|Options|Preferences.
EEUG distributes ATP-EMTP executables on its annual CD-ROM named
TpbigW.exe (Watcom) and TpbigG.exe (GNU MingW32).
ATP simulation is executed by either RunATP_W.bat or RunATP_G.dat, depending
on
which version of ATP you use.
The actual command in these batch files is one of the following:
%gnudir%tpbig.exe both %1 s -r
%watdir%tpbig.exe both %1 * -r
If you installed the programs from the EEUG annual CD distribution and
select the MingW32 ATP (preferred, this provides the best performance today)
or the Watcom ATP, do not forget to complete the command in the runATP_*.bat
file by an additional "g" or "w". E.g.
for MingW32 ATP: %gnudir%tpbigg.exe both %1 s -r
for Watcom ATP: %watdir%tpbig.exe both %1 * -r
7. Download the latest patch file called "atpdraw5*p*.zip" (if exists).
Unzip the patch in a TEMP folder and simply overwrite the existing
ATPDraw core files (ATPDraw.exe, .scl, .hlp, .cnt) in the ATPDraw
system folder.
8. Each time a project is loaded in ATPDraw the user needs to specify a Result D
irectory.
This must be a path without space in it's name. The default path is set under
Tools|Options/Directories as either the ATP-folder or as the current project
folder
(if the bottom button is checked). It is possible to create a new directory i
n the
Result Directory dialog (type it in the edit field). All results are stored i
n the ResultDir,
also those from BCTRAN, LCC etc. The user can control the name of the files b
y selecting
Run ATP in the respective dialogs. Be aware of possible name conflicts as all
files
are stored in the same directory.
