CHAPTER 1
1.0. INTRODUCTION
The attachment period is usually a maximum of eight weeks, during which the
students are expected to acquire additional practical experience to supplement,
their course of study in the university. They are also exposed to the real world of
work and its challenges which will prepare them towards their future careers.
This report is the outcome of the eight weeks practical training I had at
UNIVERSITY OF SOMALIA in the BANADIR Region.
It is said to be a supervised program since lecturers from the faculty visit the
students during this period and at the end of the program to ascertain the success of
the programs and the amount of seriousness students attached to it.
To assess the interest of the student in the occupation he/she plans to undertake.
To expose the students to work methods not taught in the University and to
provide access to products equipment not normally available in the environment
of the University.

To provide the students with an opportunity to apply knowledge in real work
situation thereby closing the gap between University work and the actual
practice.
To make the transition from school to the world of work smoothly and to
enhance student contacts for job placement.
To enlist and strengthen employers involvement in institutional activities and in
the entire educational process of preparing the students for employment in
industry.
To enhance industry´s satisfaction with the graduate of the Faculty in particular
and the University at large.
1.2.1. EXPERIENCE
Through my attachment, I have gained some new experiences in data gathering and
data analysis on the computer in presentation. I have also learnt college staff
making and straggling their daily tasks which has aided me to improve on my
social life through interaction with college workers either working under pressure
with or without supervision.

1.2.2. MORAL EDUCATION
Working in the university exposes me to various learning environment or
conditions. It has thereby inculcated in me sympathy for the poor and above all the
will to acquire myself from improving my practical knowledge.
1.4. METHODOLOGY
In order to ensure the success and effectiveness of this work I adopted the
following methods.
1.4.1. OBSERVATION
This method was used to study some of the activities that go on at the college
office such as; college workers dealing with students and lecturer, workers
attitudes towards work and the monitoring of staff.

1.4.2. PARTICIPATION
This method was used to acquire knowledge on office management, student
management, meeting management and the student problem solving, data base
software usage for attendances and managing academic time tables and many
other actives taken as theory but I encounter now in a real situation.
1.4.4. DISCUSSION
This method was employed to gather some of the activities going on in the
university.

2.4. DEPARTMENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY
University of Somalia (UNISO) comprises five colleges which offer various
degree programs in different fields of study. There are varieties of programs from
which students can choose in line with their preference. UNISO offers certificates,
diplomas, undergraduate degree programs as well as postgraduate degrees in the
areas of Public Health and Business Administration. University of Somalia offers
degree in computer science, health science including medicine, nursing, laboratory
science and public health, education, social science, business information
technology, sharia etc. The length of the duration of the all our BA and BSc.
Degree programs is four good years from matriculation to graduation save MBBS
in medicine which is six years.
These degrees are the shortest path between where you are now and the career of
your dreams. UNISO adheres to the basic principle that student success gauges the
institutional performance of the University. That is why we always seek highly
educated, committed, trustworthy, and disciplined academic personnel for all our
administrative and academic programs.
The mediums of instruction are Somali, English and Arabic where English and
Somali are the official communication languages for all internal and external
correspondences of the University of Somalia. University of Somalia has the
following colleges:

Since the university has these six main colleges then college that I have chosen as
an attachment and made report was the college of business and public
administration.
CHAPTER 3:
3.0. COLLEGE OF BUSINESS AND PUBLIC ADMINSTRATION
The college of business and public admiration of the university is made up six
departments. the department of business administration, department of business
and information technology (BIT) department of accounting and finance,
department of economics and management department, department of banking &
finance and department of public administration
This department comes under the all the jobs, tasks, students and the lecturer those
study (students) and teaches (lecturer) the department. The head of department
(HOD) who directs this department runs all the activities relate this department.
The duties that the HOD has to do are as follows:

Similarly the rest of the departments that I mentioned above do the same job as the
department of business administration and accounting and finance those I have
detailed above.

3.3. PERSONAL INPUT
Some of the activities that I undertook at the college office include; preparing
lecturer attendance form, preparing students attendances form, how to solving
student’s complain with absentees, given explanations and instructions to the
students in order to choose topics their graduation thesis, taking part the
development of the college curriculum specially the department of accounting and
finance.
During my attachment at the university I have gained practical knowledge all the
courses I took as a theory
3.5. CONCLUSION
The compulsory supervised industrial attachment of the university gives students
the opportunity to apply knowledge in real work, exposing students to work
methods not taught in the university and provide access to products equipment not
available in the university as well as assessing students interest in the occupation
he/she plans to undertake, the program should therefore be maintain and the period
extended.

3.6. RECOMMENDATION
The college of business and public administration should employ electronic
attendances system to the lecturer so as to develop this old system of attending
lecturer of the university
Students coming for industrial attachment at the university should be taken through
some form of orientation to help them have enough knowledge about what they are
about to do.
There should be a laid down procedure for monitoring workers as well as some
motivational packages for workers who establish them self well.
Since the experience for these few weeks was enormous I recommend that the
periods for the attachment should be increased, that is to say; the Third Trimester
Field Practical Program should be legally amended if not completely given way to
the Practical Industrial Attachment Program.
