BACKGROUND:

A civic centre is the chief administrative, entertainment and cultural centre of

the town as a whole. A civic centre represents the image of the region and
its residents.

With the initiation of the plan to develop ranchi as a smart city under the
SMART CITY MISSION of govt of India, Ranchi will be the first smart city to be
developed under the Greenfield model wherein a completely new urban
ecosystem will be created.

The urban civic tower will be the first building to be built in the new core
capital of the city.
AIM:

To develop the proposed civic tower in the new core capital region with
special focus on sustainable technologies such that it also weaves into the
existing socio-economic and cultural fabric of the city along with developing
it into an iconic structure.
OBJECTIVES:

 To provide facilities for audio-visual conferences, meetings, exhibitions,

recreation, performing arts, etc.
 To create a landmark in the new smart city.
 To provide a rich architectural identity to the new smart city.
 To develop the premises based on smart and sustainable technologies.
 To set the benchmark for new urban ecosystems in the smart city.
RATIONALE FOR SELECTION:

 The creation of this commercial complex will lead to increased

investments in the new smart city.
 The proposed civic tower will be at the very entrance point of the new
smart city area, thus these will create a benchmark for buildings to be
constructed further.
 The barren land under the ownership of HEC will have its land value
increased after the completion of this landmark building.
 The centre will have state-of-the-art facilities for conferences, media-
theque, exhibition and public recreation.
