PROJECT
BRIEF:

The Client announced on Friday, 14 November 2014, the launching of its 2-storey
school building called PAP 1 School in Dubai. He appointed your company as the QS for
the project. You were assigned as the Project Quantity Surveyor for the project. The
project will be procured on a traditional route, the form of Contract to be used is FIDIC
1987 (while the FIDIC Contract for Minor Works can be used, for purposes of this
assignment, FIDIC 1987 shall be used) and the type of Contract is Fixed Price Lump Sum.
The project shall be completed in 12 months with a project start of 1 June 2015.

Assignment 1 (Concept Cost Estimate, Schematic Estimate and Detailed


Estimate)

1. Client required you to establish the Budget based on a combination of Concept


and Schematic drawings (see attached Appendix 1). Please prepare a
Concept Cost Estimate to establish the budget and provide your
assumptions in the format discussed during the workshop and present your
estimate in the form included in the provided presentation slides: (50 marks)

Assume the following rebar ratios and structural steel ratio:

Truss – 50 kg/m2
Column (300 mm x 300 mm) – 180 kg/m3
Suspended Slab (200 mm thick) – 140 kg/m3
Pad Footing (1.2m x 1.2m x 300 mm deep) – 120 kg/m3
Beam (300 mm W x 400 mm D) – 200 kg/m3
Roof Beam (250 mm W x 300 mm D) – 150 kg/m3
Ground Slab (150 mm thick) – A192 mesh

Assume height from Ground level to top of room beam to be
