A MESSAGE FOR OUR CHILDREN

FIRST READING: 2 Samuel 11:1-15 PSALM 14

King David, who should be at the battle but stays home, is contrasted in Refrain:
this story with the loyal and upright soldier Uriah.
1
In the spring of the year, the time when kings go out to battle, David sent
Joab with his officers and all Israel with him; they ravaged the Ammonites,
and besieged Rabbah. But David remained at Jerusalem.

It happened, late one afternoon, when David rose from his couch and
was walking about on the roof of the king’s house, that he saw from the Tone:

to inquire about the woman. It was reported, “This is Bathsheba daughter of
Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite.” 4So David sent messengers to get her,
and she came to him, and he lay with her. (Now she was purifying herself
after her period.) Then she returned to her house. 5The woman conceived; 1

SECOND READING: Ephesians 3:14-21

In the morning David wrote a letter to Joab, and sent it by the hand of
Uriah. 15In the letter he wrote, “Set Uriah in the forefront of the hardest We have been rooted and grounded in the love of Christ, which surpasses

RITE OF ANOINTING FOR HEALING

“The order for healing is an expression in worship of the church’s ministry

of healing. Each person may come to receive a word of blessing and prayer
for healing and forgiveness, along with laying on of hands and an
anointing. These signs, first given in baptism, tell us again that we are
sealed by the Holy Spirit and marked forever with the cross of Christ, who
is health and salvation for the world.

In its ministry of healing, the church does not replace the gifts of God that
come through the scientific community nor does it promise a cure. Rather
the church offers and celebrates gifts such as these: God’s presence with
strength and comfort in time of suffering, God’s promise of wholeness and
peace and God’s love embodied in the community of faith.”

Brothers and sisters, James writes: “Is any one of you sick? Let him call the
elders of the church to prayer over him and anoint him with oil in the name
of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person
well; the Lord will raise him up.”
OFFERING PRAYER

Let us pray. O God, all that we have and all that we are come through you.
We offer back in thanksgiving a portion of what you have given us: our
time, our work, and our wealth. With them we dedicate our whole lives to
the care and redemption of all that you have made, through Jesus Christ,
who gave himself for us and for the salvation of the whole world. Amen.

DIALOGUE EUCHARISTIC PRAYER

Worshippers are invited to bow with the consecration of the Lord’s body
and blood, each time the words “Do this for the remembrance of me,” are
spoken.

Holy, mighty, and merciful Lord, heaven and earth are full of your glory. In
great love you sent to us Jesus, your Son, who reached out to heal the sick
and suffering, who preached good news to the poor, and who, on the cross,
opened his arms to all.

In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave
thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying:
Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance
of me.

Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to
drink, saying:
This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people
for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.
PREFACE
Remembering, therefore, his death, resurrection, and ascension, we await
HOLY, HOLY, HOLY his coming in glory. Pour out upon us the Spirit of your love, O Lord, and
unite the wills of all who share this heavenly food, the body and blood of
Jesus Christ, our Lord; to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be all honor
and glory, now and forever.
Amen.
LORD'S PRAYER

Risen and ascended Lord, remember us in your kingdom, and teach us to

pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom
come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our
daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who
trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us
from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
forever and ever. Amen.

INVITATION TO COMMUNION

Come, because it is the Lord who invites you. It is his will that those who
want him should meet him here.

Lutherans believe, teach and confess that we receive the true Body and
Blood of Christ in Holy Communion. If you desire to pick up the cross and
live in Christ, we hope you will receive with us. Even if you do not feel
prepared to receive the sacrament today we hope you will join us at the
table. Simply hold your hands over your heart and the pastor will give you
a blessing. Pastor will be glad to discuss Holy Communion and Holy
Baptism with you!

COMMUNION

The body of Christ, given for you.
