MATH2240 – 2018s1 – MATLAB Quick-Start Guide

Download the Installer

1. Go to: http://www.mathworks.com/accesslogin/createProfile.do
2. Create a MathWorks Account using your RMIT email address:

3. Go to the License Center:

http://www.mathworks.com/licensecenter

4. Click “Associate to License” in the upper right hand corner.
5. Choose Associate by Activation Key and click Continue.
6. When prompted to do so, enter the RMIT Activation Key and click “Associate License”.

7. Go to: http://www.mathworks.com/downloads/web_downloads/select_release
8. Click the download button for the current (latest) release: version R2018a
9. Choose the installer according to your Operating System (Windows, macOS, or Linux).



Install and Activate

1. Locate the installer you downloaded in a file browser. It should be located in the default
download location, unless you specified another location.

2. The name of the installer file is:

Windows: matlab_R2018a_win64.exe

Mac OS X: matlab_R2018a_maci64.dmg.zip

3. Start the installer:

Windows: Double-click the installer file you downloaded in the previous step. The Windows
Self-Extractor runs, and then the installer starts.

Mac OS X: Unzip the file and double click on the file matlab_R2018a_maci64.dmg.
Then, Double-click InstallForMacOSX.app to start the installer. Inside this folder, double-
click InstallForMacOSX.app to start the installer.

4. In the MathWorks installer, select Log in with a MathWorks Account and follow the
instructions to log in.

5. When prompted to do so, select the license you want to use.
6. Choose installation folder.
7. Select the following products (deselect the other preselected products) to download and
install:

MATLAB 9.4
Symbolic Math Toolbox 8.1

8. After downloading and installing your products, keep the Activate MATLAB checkbox
selected and click Next.
9. When asked to provide a user name, verify that the displayed user name is correct.
Continue with the process until activation is complete.
