Repair Procedure

Parapet Crack Repair Signature & Date

Scope
This procedure address crack repair methods for Thinwall panels. All Thinwall cracks shall be
treated according to this procedure.

Crack Observance and Reporting

Report all cracks to the QC Manager and VP of Operations. Cracks shall be documented by QC
using the Product Inspection Form.

Crack Reports shall contain the following information:

 Facial (front) view of the panel showing schematic layout of crack

 Crack size (width) and location on panel
 Whether the crack is facial only, rear only, or cracked through
 A description of how and when the crack occurred

An effort shall be made to prevent any future cracks occur.

Repair Acceptance
Once cracks are repaired and cured, all repairs must be inspected by Quality Control and blue-
dotted prior to yarding the panel.

Repair Procedures - General

In general, the repair of the panel is considered acceptable if it satisfies the following two criteria:

1. Provides a water-tight seal for water infiltration

2. Satisfies the aesthetic requirements of the project specification

Depending on whether or not the crack is in the face, the rear or all the way through, the repair
procedure will differ. Refer to the applicable section(s) below.

Repair Procedure #1
Type 1 – Cosmetic Facial Crack (crack is .005” wide or less)

1. Ensure crack surface is dry

2. Ensure crack is free of any foreign debris such as dust, grease, curing compounds, waxes or
other matter
3. Apply non-pigmented, non-shiny water-resistant sealer to the crack surface
4. Rub crack with a prepared patching material to match existing concrete and/or stain color
and texture
5. Ensure repair material is fully cured prior to caulking, staining further treating the affected
area
6. Ensure Quality Control has blue-dotted the repair prior to moving the product to storage
7. Observe the crack again at least two weeks after the repair was completed to ensure the
crack is not re-opened up and that the panel still meets the aesthetic requirements of the
project specification. Report any variances to Quality Control and Operations

Type 2 – Cosmetic Facial Crack (crack is wider than .005”)

Default (standard) Procedure:

1. Ensure crack surface is dry
2. Ensure crack is free of any foreign debris such as dust, grease, curing compounds, waxes or
other matter
3. Rout the crack out to a ¼” width by ¾” depth (see sketch below)
4. Apply FX-523 Flex-E-Pox crack sealer to the joint according to the manufacturer’s written
specifications
5. After the epoxy has hardened, apply a prepared patching material to match the existing
concrete color/stain and texture
6. Apply non-pigmented, non-shiny water-resistant sealer to the crack surface
7. Ensure repair material is fully cured prior to caulking, staining further treating the affected
area
8. Ensure Quality Control has blue-dotted the repair prior to moving the product to storage
9. Observe the crack again at least two weeks after the repair was completed to ensure the
crack is not re-opened up and that the panel still meets the aesthetic requirements of the
project specification. Report any variances to Quality Control and Operations

Rout out 1/8” wide x ¾” deep slot.

Refer to the written procedure

Patching material

Repair Procedure #1
Alternate (back-up) Procedure:
Use this procedure only when the use of flexible epoxy may aesthetically damage the face. This
alternate procedure shall only be used if the Project Manager, Yard Manager and QC Manager
agree that the default procedure cannot work with the desired result

1. Ensure crack surface is dry

2. Ensure crack is free of any foreign debris such as dust, grease, curing compounds, waxes or
other matter
3. Rout the crack out to a ¼” width by ¾” depth
4. Use a low-viscosity epoxy injection system
5. Apply caulk at the rear of the panel, as needed, to retain the epoxy material
6. Drill for injection ports and seal as required
7. After the ports have cured, inject the epoxy with steady pressure according to
manufacturer’s written instructions. Ensure the cracks are completely penetrated
8. After the epoxy has hardened, apply a prepared patching material to match the existing
concrete color/stain and texture
9. Apply non-pigmented, non-shiny water-resistant sealer to the crack surface
10. Ensure repair material is fully cured prior to caulking, staining further treating the affected
area
11. Ensure Quality Control has blue-dotted the repair prior to moving the product to storage
12. Observe the crack again at least two weeks after the repair was completed to ensure the
crack is not re-opened up and that the panel still meets the aesthetic requirements of the
project specification. Report any variances to Quality Control and Operations

Type 3 – Rear Cracks (crack may be any size)

1. Ensure crack surface is dry

2. Ensure crack is free of any foreign debris such as dust, grease, curing compounds, waxes or
other matter
3. Rub crack with a prepared patching material to match the existing concrete texture
4. Ensure Quality Control has blue-dotted the repair prior to moving the product to storage
5. Observe the crack again at least two weeks after the repair was completed to ensure the
crack is not re-opened up and that the panel still meets the aesthetic requirements of the
project specification. Report any variances to Quality Control and Operations

Type 4 – Through Cracks (crack extends all the way through the facing concrete)

1. Handle facial panel cracks according to either the Type 1 or Type 2 procedure noted above
2. Handle rear panel cracks according to the Type 3 procedure noted above
