Unit Title: Ratio and Proportional Relationships Name: Loredana Fabian

Content Area: Mathematics Grade Level: 7

CA Content Standard(s)/Common Core Standard(s):

7.RP.1 Compute unit rates associated with ratios of fractions, including ratios of lengths, areas and other quantities measured in like or different units.
7.RP.2 Recognize and represent proportional relationships between quantities.

Big Ideas/Unit Goals:

Big Idea:
Students understand how to use ratio and proportional relationships in multiple ways (table, graph, equation, diagram, and verbal description) to solve real-world
problems.

Essential Questions:
When is a relationship proportional?
How can I tell if two quantities form a proportional relationship?
How are ratios and proportional reasoning used to solve problems?

Unit Summary:

Students extend their understanding of ratios from 6 grade to recognize when a relationship is or is not proportional. During this unit, students will learn to represent
th

proportional relationships with tables, equations, and graphs and to develop understanding of proportionality to solve multi-step problems. This knowledge can then be
used to solve real-world problems.
