Fluid Engineering Specialist

Job Purpose
Provides leadership and expert level Drilling Completions and Workover Fluids support to
the Well Management Department (WMD), with particular focus on drilling and
completing Sub-Horizontal (SHZ) wells and workovers with emphasis on debris
management.

Basic functions and responsibilities include:

Ensure effective fluids technology assimilation, dissemination and operational application.
Provide total fluids systems design, ensuring fluid selections are optimized for effective
performance and drilling. completion. and workover operations efficiency.
Plan Drilling fluids as an integrated system incorporating mass balance. solids content.
particle size distribution. rheology and chemical reactivity.
Establish Drilling fluids chemistry and testing procedures.
Design effective solids control systems and select equipment to optimize solids control
efficiency.
Assist with fluids services and materials OA/OC. procurement and logistics.
Provide Fluids support for Completions and Workovers. including fluid selections.
calculations and monitoring. with particular emphasis on debris management.
Establish plans to control / cure lost circulation.
Implement and monitor various sweeps. pills and spacers.
Design fluid systems to minimize stuck pipe occurrences.
Evaluate new/novel fluids systems from various suppliers to ensure company is able to
take advantage of developing fluids technology applications. Focus on differential sticking
and FE quality.
Ensure that all fluids used are optimally planned and executed from an overall personnel
safety and environment impact standpoint which is consistent with Company policies and
local regulatory requirements. This will include a team effort between internal EHS. fluids
supplier. rig contractor and operational personnel.
Understand fully the environmental considerations of our fluids program including
handling and disposal. ensuring regulatory compliance with Supreme Council for the
Environment and Natural Resources.
Work closely with logistics and operations personnel and assist in planning for the
efficient preparation. packaging. staging and movement of all dry bulk and liquid
materials as required.
Proactively assist operations in monitoring daily fluids usage and optimizing cost
Support WMD team efforts to establish new tenders for Drilling. Completions and
Workover fluids.

Key Result Areas

Design: Assist the respective Heads of Drilling Engineering and Wellwork & Completions
Engineering to deliver the fluids engineering designs in a timely manner
Execution Planning: Coordinate with Engineering. Operations. and fluids supplier and
others to plan for effective and efficient execution
Operations Support: Provide support and consultation during active operations
Mentoring: Provide guidance and mentoring for development of WMD engineering
personnel including secondees. direct hires. and Qatari Nationals.
 Studies: Facilitate studies on suitable state-of-the-art equipment. techniques. methods &
practices. and computer simulation models to improve drilling fluids. working in synergy
with Client and Company Technology Dept.

Knowledge Skills and Experience

B. S. Degree or Diploma from an accredited and recognized College, University or
Polytechnical Institute.
Minimum of 10 years upstream oil & gas work experience preferably with worldwide
integrated oil companies.
Prior experience as an in-house Drilling Fluids Advisor; Minimum 3 years experience.
Prior experience as a Drilling Fluids Engineer; minimum of 7 years.
Prior experience working North Field drilling fluid challenges required.
Prior experience drilling carbonate formations with severe lost returns.
Formal courses in drilling fluids.
Experience with offshore operations and safety.
Demonstrated skills in Funding and Economic decision evaluation.
Experience with hydrogen sulfide well designs and safety practices.
Strong verbal and written skills in English.
