INSTALLATION OF CHILLED WATER PIPING / INSULATION /
PRESSURE TESTING

1 Installation of Chilled water pipes Below Ground Level:

 Ensure the beveled ends and jacketing is not damaged while pipe laying.
 Ensure the leak detection wires are not damaged.
 Verify the leak detection wires are in horizontal plane

2 Insulation of Chilled water pipes:

 All installed pipes after pressure testing shall be cleaned and the surface to be
maintained dry.
 Pipes shall be insulated in line with manufacturer’s recommendation and as per
specification.
 The thickness of the insulation shall be as per the specification.
 The Pipes shall be cleaned properly before the application of adhesives on the pipe
surface for sticking insulation and butt joints.
 The adjoining sections of insulation shall be butted firmly together and longitudinal
seam of the insulation shall be located at the bottom half of the pipe.

3 Insulation of Chilled water Pipe Fittings:

 Insulation at the Fittings shall be formed from accurately mitered and trimmed
sections of the approved insulation to ensure close fit to the surface and a uniform
thickness of insulation.
 Mitered segments shall be adhered together with approved adhesive
 The fittings shall be insulated with the same insulation thickness and shall be site
fabricated.

4 Field Joint Insulation of Chilled water Pipe

 Verify the insulation & continuity test have been performed & accepted.
 Outer casing fittings will be fabricated in HDPE on site, for the pre-insulated pipes.
 The size of the outer casing fitting is larger than the outer casing of the pre-insulated
pipe if required. This facilitates easy mounting and overlap of the fitting onto the Pre-
insulated pipe outer casing.
 All fittings will be in two halves and are to be fitted or mounted on the pre-insulated
pipe. Polyurethane foam spacers are used if required to provide support to the fittings.
 The two valves are held firmly together using nylon strap with jubilee clips.
 The top half portion of the fitting will have two holes of ¾” on far ends of the joint to
pour polyurethane liquid chemical. One hole is inlet for the chemical and the other
hole is exit for the overflowing chemical.
 Mix the chemicals (2 part) is small quantity in the ratio 1:1
 Stir the chemical and immediately pour it through the funnel and wait till the chemical
has expanded to become foam.
 When completely filled, the excess chemical will come out through the exit or
overflow hole.

 Close both the holes on the fitting so that chemical foam reaches and fills the entire
volume of fitting and no corner is left empty.
 Allow the foam to settle and become hard
 Clean the fitting for overflowing chemical and leave it looking clean and tidy
