Academic Difficulty Concentrating in class and Moving to Learn: Learn with your body! This can boost the staying on task student to have fun and move, this evidence-based strategy can increase concentration, motivation and interest. It also helps build memory and blood flow to the brain. Guided Notes: Guided notes can assist with concentration and learning as well. The student well I have to concentrate to see which word will come next to fill in the blank. Memory – Difficult Memory Recall Music: Learning through music is a great evidence-based strategy to build memory. In addition, students with epilepsy are creative and will enjoy a song!
Social / School Skills
Fear of Teasing Response Cards: this evidence-based strategy will boost (Seizures) confidence in learning because every student in the class is responding at the same time. Break the class in two, and it becomes a game which can build social interaction. Drama: this evidence based-strategy can boost the student’s confidence for self and in front of others. In addition, expand student’s creativity. Social Isolation from others Cooperative Learning: Positive interdependence, face to face interaction, small groups. All great for socializing and building relationship through learning. Think-Pair-Share: The student may feel social isolated from peers due to the fact the peers may have seen the student have a seizure. Some peers may understand, other may not. However, Think-Pair-Share can boost social interaction and possibly build friendship while learning. Behavior / Organization Anxiety/Depression – student has Praise Notes: This can reverse negative emotions for the student anxiety/depression symptoms because of and can be a sign of good-feeling. her seizure episodes and the unknowing of Positive Self-Talk: Anxiety for student with epilepsy can arose when a seizure will occur. due to the fact the student has no idea when a seizure episode may occur. Therefore, this evidence-based strategy can be a great tool for the student who may be experiencing negative thoughts to start thinking positive about self. Hyperactivity – student shows sign of Good Behavior Game: Student shown signs of hyperactivity, so hyperactivity behavior, acting spontaneous having a Good Behavior Game will teach good behavior, have through behavior. access to rewards for good behavior, and increase social interaction. Behavior Specific Praise Statements: If student is behaving well, praise statements will be great to give to the student. A sense of feel good about themselves will go a long way.
