is
aware
of
a
situation
involving
a
young,
black
man
who
was
shopping
in
our
store
and
the
manner
in
which
he
was
treated.
Upon
being
made
aware
of
this
situation,
we
immediately
started
an
investigation
to
determine
what
happened.
That
investigation
is
continuing.
We
take
this
matter
very
seriously.
Our
CEO
is
also
working
with
the
family
of
the
young
man
to
resolve
their
concerns.
While
we
believe
this
is
an
isolated
incident,
we
are
implementing
enhanced
training
to
ensure
everyone
continues
to
feel
welcome
in
our
stores
and
that
our
team
members
better
understand
our
policies,
procedures
and
values.
One
of
those
values
is
celebrating
the
diversity
of
our
team
members
and
communities.
We
recognize
this
is
an
active
process.
This
incident
reinforces
our
need
to
provide
additional
diversity
and
sensitivity
training
to
all
team
members
to
safeguard
our
safe
and
welcoming
environment.
In
a
related
incident,
on
Friday
night,
an
individual
using
a
fake
social
media
profile
posed
as
a
store
team
member.
The
individual
began
posting
inappropriate
and
inflammatory
comments
on
social
media
outlets
purporting
to
be
on
behalf
of
Macey’s.
Additionally,
we
are
aware
that
someone
using
a
fake
social
media
profile,
posing
as
the
young
man
involved,
was
used
to
post
insensitive,
vulgar
and
inflammatory
comments
on
social
media.
Unfortunately,
this
situation
demonstrates
the
toxic
state
of
the
Internet
and
social
media
today.
In
today’s
environment,
judgments
are
often
made
before
the
facts
are
obtained.
The
conduct
in
creating
fake
social
media
profiles
and
posting
such
inflammatory
comments
is
offensive
and
reprehensible.
We
have
reported
these
posts
to
Google
and
the
posts
have
started
to
be
removed.
We
are
considering
legal
action
to
expose
the
identity
of
these
individuals
and
taking
appropriate
action
against
them.
