Complete the following tasks. There is a potential of 80 points. You will have 2 hours
to complete the proficiency. If you are not finished, you will be graded on what you
completed.
You should save your file often while you do the exam so that you don’t lose all your
work if the computer crashes. This could result in an “F”.
1) Create a new project in Logic Pro X name the file “CW191 Proficiency Exam
<your name>”, and save the folder to the desktop. (1pt)
2) Be sure your audio hardware and MIDI controller are configured properly. Make
sure that you can hear the metronome.
3) Choose one of the two music examples found on page 3 and 4.
4) Insert a tempo changes at bar 1 with the tempo of the example you have chosen.

5) Sequence (using the keyboard controller) the drum grooves of the music example
you have chosen. Make sure that each piece of the drum kit is sequenced on a
different MIDI track. For the drums part use a patch in Battery that you like.
6) Quantize each drum tracks using the correct quantization value. (4pt)
7) Set the Velocity of the accented notes on the HH part to a value of 127. (4pt)
8) Create a new track and assign it to Kontakt with a bass patch. (2pt)
9) Sequence the bass part of the music example you have chosen. (4pt)
10) Quantize the bass part. (2pt)
11) Create a new track and assign it to Kontakt with an electric piano patch. (2pt)
12) Sequence a simple piano part with the chord changes of the piece you have
selected. This part should fit stylistically the drum groove and the bass part you
have sequenced. (4pt)
13) Import one of the audio loops provided with the exam and adapt the tempo of the
loop to the tempo of the sequence. (9pt)
14) Copy and paste the 4 bar sequence 3 more times. (2pt)
15) Transpose the Bass and the piano part 1 whole step up from bar 9 to the end. (4pt)
16) Create a crescendo on the piano track from bar 1 to bar 3 using CC7. (4pt)
17) Render each MIDI track (piano, bass and drums) as separate audio tracks. (8pt)
18) On the audio tracks pan the piano slightly to the left and the drum loop track
slightly to the right. (2pt)
20) Add a peak Equalizer on the bass track with the following settings: 2dB, Freq.
220Hz. (2pt)
21) Fade out all the MIDI tracks from bar 14 throughout bar 16 using automation.
(4pt)
22) Bounce to disk your final mix making sure you are also including the effects as
part of you bounce. (8pt)
23) Save you project and give it to the instructor on his/her flash drive. Label your
folder with your name!!
