COST OF INSTALLING DRIP IRRIGATION SYSTEM IN INDIA

Cost of installing Drip Irrigation system depends on:-

1. Size and shape of land
2. Type Of Soil
3. Terrain
4. Types of crop
5. Sowing pattern
6. Subsidy given by government (according to category)

Factors affecting cost estimation of drip irrigation system in India:-

1. Costs for local material / equipment delivery to and service provider
transportation to and from the job site.
2. Costs to prepare the worksite for Drip Irrigation Installation, including
costs to protect existing structure(s), finishes, materials and
components.
3. Costs for job clean up and debris removal at project completion.
4. Labour setup time, mobilization time and minimum hourly charges that
are commonly included for small Drip Irrigation Installation jobs.

Drip irrigation is also called trickle irrigation. The water is dripped at very slow
rate of 2-20 litres/hour. With drip irrigation water, applications are more
frequent (usually every 1-3 days) than with other methods. The Drip Irrigation
efficiency is 90–95%.
The emitters have very small waterways ranging from 0.2-2.0 mm in diameter
and these can become blocked if the water is not clean. Blockage may also
occur if the water contains algae, fertilizer deposits and dissolved chemicals
that precipitate such as calcium and iron.
For a farmer wants to install drip irrigation for say orange farming in which
plants are 3 meter apart it will cost him about Rs. 55,000 per acre.

In this case, we can see that the total cost is Rs. 361862 rupees for 2.54ha.
of land. In Uttar Pradesh, farmers are given a subsidy of 70%. So they need
to pay Rs. 108558.
So the approx. price a farmer need to pay is Rs. 1,00,000 for 2.5 hectares of
land to install drip irrigation on their field.
[1acre=0.40 hectare]

COST ESTIMATION
 Cost of only head unit costs from 8000-10000 which varies depending
upon the capacity of head unit
 Total cost of drip irrigation machinery cost around 80000-90000 per
hectare for a vegetable crop
 Depending on the crop and spacing between the plants the cost of
equipment also increases
 If the spacing between the plants is less more the drippers are required
which ultimately increases the total cost and vice versa
 For an inline drip irrigation i.e subsurface drip irrigation cost gets
increases as the as trenches are to be made additionally
 This cost varies from place to place depending on the local labour cost
for trenching and the depth of trenching

between the trees of two columns and the second value represents the
spacing between trees (or) plants of different rows present in the same
column
 The cost mentioned in the above table is per hectare.
