1. Students will read Book 6 of Virgil’s Aeneid. Since this can be a daunting task, links to
Shmoop and SparkNotes have been included to help clarify main plot points and to aid in
comprehension of the text.
2. Once students have finished reading the text, they will search the internet for two sources
to help their classmates understand the content of Book 6. This includes the layout of the
Underworld, the importance of the discussion of Aeneas’s descendents, and the
symbolism of his exit through the gate of ivory/false dreams.
3. After they have found their two sources, they will log in to the shared class Symbaloo
using the provided username and password and following the directions listed in the
Canvas assignment.

Lesson 2
Learning Objectives

From The College Board (2018), students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of Latin
vocabulary when translating Latin texts into English, and demonstrate knowledge of Latin

Lesson
1 . Students will review the linked Quizlet to gain a strong knowledge of the required
core vocabulary for the selections from Book Six.

studied adequately, they will use the “Test” feature of Quizlet to assess their knowledge of the
vocabulary.
3. Students will keep working within the “Test” feature until they achieved what they feel
is their highest score. At that point, they will screenshot their screen with their “test” score and
submit it to the appropriate Canvas assignment.

Canvas Quiz

Lesson
1. Students will access the posted Google Doc with all of the required Latin lines. The
document is not editable, so it will be necessary for students to make a copy of it if they wish to
take notes on the content.
2. Using the Google Doc and the previously posted link to the English translation (or
their own copy by Mandlebaum), students will align the Latin and English texts in order to gain a
better overview of the content.
3. After students have aligned the text, they will take a Canvas quiz to check their
alignment and make sure that they are referencing the correct parts of the English translation.

Lesson 4
Learning Objectives
From The College Board (2018), students will be able to identify stylistic features in
Latin poetry and prose, use specific terminology to identify grammatical forms and syntactic

required lines of Latin text. Each presentation either has specific words/phrases highlighted and
require students to identify them or vice versa (key terms and concepts are listed and students are
required to identify them within the text).

displayed until after the second attempt, but explanations for each of the answers will be
included.
