WEBSITES FOR TEACHING YOUNG LEARNERS

SITES PRODUCED FOR AND IN SOME CASES BY YOUNG LEARNERS

Cyberteens.com
http://www.cyberteens.com/
Has a big "links" section for more sites, a "creativity" section with things done by teenagers.
The message boards in the "connection" section are an example of where you probably
don't want to take your learners (see also sidebar).

KidsDomain.com
Activities for days of the year (Christmas, Halloween...), clipart, craft activities, games...
Probably most suitable for those teaching very young learners.

OTHER SITES FOR YOUNG LEARNERS

Askforkids.com
The search engine Ask has a kids site, intended for "homework help and research for
school projects", which has the advantage of being "safe". Lots of links to other sites,
too.

Dave's ESL Café for Kids

The one and only Dave also has a kids site - though the kids section isn't much more than
a collection of links to other site
http://www.eslcafe.com/students/ s.

http://www.disney.co.uk/

http://www.genkienglish.net/letslearnenglish.htm

Enchantedlearning.com
Particulary recommended for its activities for the very young.
http://www.enchantedlearning.com/Home.html

Factmonster
http://www.factmonster.com/
The Fact Monster encyclopaedia is a good source for articles, written for kids, on the
sort of things that interest them... Oh, you know, Harry Potter, that sort of thing.

HowStuffWorks
http://www.howstuffworks.com/
Another encyclopaedia, for the older kids, those with a fairly good level of English, and
particularly those interested in science.

Kids on the Net

http://www.kidsonthenet.org.uk/
St Andrew’s College Summer Schools.

Kids on the Net has "interactive activities, articles, illustrations, advice and collaborative
online writing projects which show how the power of the computer and the Internet can
open up exciting possibilities through hypertext and multimedia". Interested in writing
projects? Well worth exploring.

National Geographic for Kids

http://kids.nationalgeographic.com/kids/
The NG's kids section - again, not really intended for learners of English - is a great site if
you're doing something with animals, for example.

TIME Magazine for Kids

http://www.timeforkids.com/
The "news" and "homework helper" sections are particularly interesting.

Yahoo Kids
Animals, Jokes (Q: Why was 6 afraid of 7? A: Because 7 8 9!), Movies, news... Yahoo!'s
portal for kids is a huge site.

Starfall
http://www.starfall.com/
Learn to read with phonics

NASA Kids Club
