Chapter: 3 SUBTRACTION

objective : Able to recall properties of subtraction and 2 digit s ubtraction.
We use subtraction when we need to
* find out how many are left.
* compare groups.
* find out how many do not belong to a group.
Minus ‘ - ‘ is the symbol of subtraction.
15 – 5 = 10
(Minuend) ( Subtrahend) (Difference)
*The answer in subtraction is called the difference.
Properties of subtraction.
* When we subtract a number from itself, the answer is always zero .
EXAMPLE:
20 – 20= 0
100 – 100 = 0
* When we subtract zero from a number , the answer is the number itself .
EXAMPLE:
12 – 0 = 12
45 - 0 = 45

* When we subtract one from a number, the answer is the number before the minuend.
EXAMPLE:
65 – 1 = 64
79 – 1 = 78

Chapter :10 TIME (Notes).

Objective: students will recall the concept about time

DAY : 1 Introduction.

Looking Back:
A Clock tells us to tell the time with the help of its two hands
(short hand and long hand).
The short hand tells us Hour.
The Long hand tells us Minute.

60 minutes = 1 Hour.
30 minutes makes half an hour.

Minute hand is on 12.

Hour hand is on 3.
Time - 3 :00 or 3 o' clock.

Objective: students can able to analyze quarter past, half past and

quarter to.

DAY: 2. Reading Time to Quarter past,Half past and Quarter to the
Hour .
Refer TB: page 175.

Quarter Past: When the minute hand moves from 12 to 3 ,it

.
completes
quarter of an hour (15 minutes) ; we say that it is quarter -past the
hour.

Eg: The time is Quarter past 10 or 10:15

Half Past : When the minute hand moves from 12 to 6 ,it
completes half an hour. we say that it is half-past the hour.

Eg: The time is half past 5 or 5:30.

Quarter To : When the minute hand moves from 12 to 9 ,it completes

3 quarter of an hour,we say that it is quarter to next hour.

Eg: The time is quarter to 5 or 4: 45.

CW: Draw the clock for a) Quarter past 10. b) Quarter to 9.

HW: Draw the clock for c) 3:15 , d) 2:45 in NB.

CW :WB PG NO :95

Objective: students can able to tell the time to 5 minutes correctness.

Day 3 :Telling the Time to 5 minutes correctness :

.
➢ When the hour hand moves from one number to next, one hour
has passed.
➢ When the minute hand moves from one number to next,5 minutes
has passed.

* CW : TB : Page :178 exercise 10A

1) Malavika went for shopping with her mother at 11:45 Am on sunday.

After 2 hours, they came back to home,At what time Malavika reached
her home?

started shopping at 11:45 AM

after 2 hours = 11:45 + 2 = 1:45

2)Anu came back to home from school at 4:00Pm,she studied maths

.
immediately for 2 hours,At what time she finished her learning ?
ans : started learning at 4:00Pm

Chapter :5 Division (Notes).

DAY : 1
Objective: To illustrate the knowledge of equal sharing.

When we want to share things equally OR make small groups, each
group containing the same number of article etc. then the process of
division is applied.
The symbol for division is “ ÷” divided by
Equal sharing
12 ÷ 4 = 3
(Number in all) (Number of groups) (Number in each group)

Eg: When we divide 18 balls into 3 groups, how many balls are in each
group? Write a division sentence to show that ?

18 shared equally by 3 is _6_

18 ÷ 3 = 6

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DAY 2 : Equal Grouping
Objective: To demonstrate the concept of equal grouping.
15 ÷ 5 = 3
(Number in all) (Number in each group) (Number of groups)
Eg : There are 20 pictures in all. If 5 pictures fits into one page, then how
.
many pages we need to fix all the pictures equally?

20 ÷ 5 = 4
So, 4 pages are needed to equally group the pictures.

DAY : 3 Division by repeated subtraction
Objective: To analyse the knowledge of division by repeated
subtraction.
Equal grouping can also be shown as repeated subtraction.
Eg : There are 18 boys who wants to play paintball. If each team has 6
players , how many teams there will be?
A: By using repeated subtraction

DAY 4 : Checking Division

Objective: To check the division by using the method of checking
division.

For checking division,

First check if the remainder is smaller than the divisor.
Then, if
(Quotient x Divisor) + Remainder = Dividend
Then the quotient and the remainder that we have are correct.

Example: 34 ÷ 8
Here,
Q= 4 R= 2
Checking,
(Q x Divisor) + R = ( 4 x 8) + 2= 32 + 2 = 34 = Dividend.
Hence it is correct.

Divide and check your answer :

.
a) 53 ÷ 6

6 5 3
- 4 8
5

Here, Q= 8 R= 5
Checking:
( Q x Divisor) + R = ( 8 x 6 ) + 5
= 48 + 5
= 53 = Dividend
Hence, the answer is correct.

b) 33 ÷ 4
c) 43 ÷ 8

HW :
Divide and check your answer :
a) 27 ÷ 8
b) 83 ÷ 9

DAY 7 : Problem Solving

Objective: To implement the knowledge by solving word problems.

1) 54 children were standing in rows of 9. How many rows of 9 they

could make?
Ans: No. of children = 54
No. of children in each row = 9
No. of rows of 9 = 54 ÷ 9 = Q 6
So, they could make 6 rows of 9 children.
.
2) A bedspread needs 3m of cloth. How many bedspreads can be made
from 20 m of cloth ? How much will be left over?
Ans: Length of the cloth = 20 m
Length needed for each bedspread = 3m
No. of bed spreads made from 20m cloth = 20 ÷ 3 = Q 6 ,R 2

So, 6 bedspreads can be made out of 20m cloth each of 3m.

And 2 m cloth will be left over

HW :

a) 35 tyres were being put on cars. If each car needs 4 tyres, how
many cars can be fitted with the tyres? How many tyres will not be
