It's a sub-class, but even that's a travesty. Anything beyond Fighter, Cleric and MU is silly.

Well, not really, although groups of 2 should really be playing a nice game of Titty Grab or
the like, IMHO. I do find groups less than 30 quite difficult to manage; you have to really
work hard to make sure everyone is involved.

Karlsen wrote:

I played Dungeons & Dragons for 3 hours, but then I was slain by an elf. It was 3 hours
of subjective time and the elf was a F9/W17 valley elf priestess of Pelor.

Peter Congrats!
(Astinex)
(1) Your at work and will only have time for a short lunch. Before lunch time you hear about
a free gaming convention just a couple blocks over. Knowing you won't have time to eat and
check out the convention, what do you do with your lunch time?

(2) One of the long time players in your group is obviously a freeloader. They never bring
snacks or drinks, and never have money to pitch in for pizza or other food ordered. Yet
they're always eating and drinking stuff. How do you handle this?

(3) You've published a few articles and a small supplement for some lesser known RPGs
years ago. You haven't published anything in the last couple years. You are applying for a
job as a columnist for a respected business journal. Do you reference your old RPG
publications credits or not, and why?

(4) You and your close friend have joined a new group of RPG players. At first things are
going good, but after a while you notice tension between your friend and the other players.
Eventually you are asked how you would feel if your friend was no longer allowed to play
with the group. How do you answer?

(5) Your GM'ing a game. The PCs need to sneak into a fortified location. They come across a
guard they will need to bypass. Unfortunately the RPG does not have knock out rules, and a
fight will alert the bad guys. As a GM, how do you rule if the players want to "knock-out" the
guard?

(6) When making characters, do you spend more time on the attributes or on gearing up
and why?

Why would I care? It sounds like I'm a pretty crappy host. Tit for Tat is NOT a cool way to
go through life.

If I was proud of the work, sure. Why wouldn't I?

I don't have any friends, so we'll say it's my wife. I'd talk to her, she'd probably bow out and
I'd continue playing. Why is this a big deal?

They tell me what they want to do and I decide if they automatically succeed or not.
Otherwise I decide which roll to use, AC or a stat roll. If they are smart they figure out a
way to do it without me forcing them roll. Rolling means a chance of failure. You never want
to roll if you don't have to.

Probably attributes if it's a game I don't know. If I do the game then I spend almost no time
on either. Gear might edge out attributes because I'll want some fun things, like a pouch of
angel tears and the like.

When you play RPGs, is there a particular character type to which you gravitate
(mechanically or personality-wise)?

What's your favorite place to visit (either local or exotic)? And what are the good night
spots in France?

Is there an RPG product that you think is vastly underrated and deserves some
spotlight?

Have you ever tried a play-by-forum game?

Beach, countryside, or mountains?

What's the last great game you discovered at a convention?

Did you have a favorite game as a kid?

What kind of stories appeal to you most?

What do you think of I6: Ravenloft?

I'm told by The Pretty Girl that I tend to play characters who appear inept but are secretly powerful. I
think I tend to play characters with a strong hook: the exalted naive monk, old man on a sex vacation,
gross 1/2 orc, ancient 1st level paladin, LG mage on a path to evil, etc.

[q="vestige"]

What's your favorite place to visit (either local or exotic)? And what are the good night spots in

I've enjoyed the hill country of Thailand, the Bali/Lombok, Egypt and Nepal. Nepal is
probably the place I'm most looking forward to going back to again.

Deep Sea, La Locomotive, and Flèche d’Or, for a start.

vestige wrote:

That is, to some extent, the purpose of my blog/reviews, so a quick check of my Top10/Hot
list. Normally I would state The Caverns of Thracia, but with the PbF game going on it's not
that unknown anymore on the Geek. I just discovered the hex crawls last year and can't
fathom how I'd missed them this long. Either the origional Wilderlands or the newer Hex
Crawl Chronicles would be great for fantasy gamers. They are FULL of ideas, even ifthey are
not used as hex crawls.

Have you ever tried a play-by-forum game?

Sadly, no. I'm suspicious of most forms of social interaction on the Internet; they can be
time sinks and I have EVERYTHING left to do!

vestige wrote:

Beach, countryside, or mountains?

Well, I live on a 2-acre lot forested lot with a creek in the city, so I already get a decent
amount of countryside. My 10-year plan ends with me selling the house and buying a boat,
so that takes care of the beach. I want to return to Nepal, so that's the mountains. Can I
have all 3?

vestige wrote:

The PST Productions Cthulhu Live LARPs. I will, and do, play anything and everything at
cons however I seldom find a great game. I enjoy the time I'm playing and perhaps it helps
me think about how I more enjoy some aspect of gaming, but that's it. Hmmm, or maybe

I think it started D&D down the slippery slope of story being more important than the
players actions. It, along with the Thief class from Supplement I: Greyhawk turned D&D in

STILL hasn't added it to the db] I came across a new line of Choose Your Own Adventure
books, including "Super Giant Monster Time". It looked like silly fun so I kind of blindly
clicked on the one with the sillier name "Ocean of Lard."

Have you seen the South Park Movie? You know how you think it's just a normal old South
Park ... until the musical number starts in the Terrance & Phillip movie. Then you say to
yourself: "Oh My. This IS different." Well, that's this book.

Here's the description: "You're on the run from the cops and need to disappear somehow.
Luckily you happen across a secret ocean in the middle of Wyoming. An undiscovered world
of pirates and zombies that, according to maps, couldn't possibly exist. But here it is, a vast
white sea that is made of some kind of greasy blubber substance instead of water. To
escape, you must join the crew of one of the two ships at the dock. The first is a strange
black cube-shaped vessel called The Eye World and the other is a totally punk rock pirate
ship called The Rotten Sore. Which will you take?"

Ok, still, not too bad right? A silly little romp.

The first line of the book is "You never should have molested all of those kids."

Oh my.

Then I looked at the cover.

Ok, it's Saturday, so it's hint time.

A) I am a man of style as taste, as my earliest posts on RPGgeek show.

B) I run a large portion of the Internet. Or, I did on Monday anyway.

Bryce Lynch Alas good readers, it is time for me to say goodbye.

(bryce0lynch)
As for my 2T1L, well ...

1) I appear as a character in the art of GURPS Black Ops. You can see me on page 6 under
the heading "The Secret Elite."

2) Once, long, long ago, I did cut the US internet connection to a portion of France. I was
bored, but it was for a good reason.

3) While backpacking through Asia and Africa I bribed my way in to Myanmar. I was in
Nepal/Kathmandu during an Indian airline strike and bribed the baggage handlers to get me
on the list for the domestic flights out. I'm also pretty sure I was shaken down by the guys
in the Nairobi airport for $100, but I'm not completely sure, it could have been legit.

3!=6, so #3 is the lie ... from a certain point of view.
