2 Existing Fire Fighting System
The main characteristics of the existing system are described below

2.1 Fire Pump Station

Number of Pumps: 3 x 50 % capacity (568 m3/hr @ 11.8 barg Water head nominal capacity) diesel
engine driven firewater pumps, specified for saline water service (density of water is 1,015 kg/l).

2.2 Existing Fire Water Network

2.2.1 A 12” diameter ring-main fire water network is installed around Area 100, Area 200 and Area 300. There
are Tie-In Valved connections at Area 300 sized 12” for extension to new Area 400.

3.1 Regulatory Requirements

As per PGS29 Section 8.2, Fixed-roof tanks in a tank bund for the storage of substances of Classes 1 and
2 must be fitted with a stationary extinguishing arrangement which meets the NFPA 11.
The extinguishing water system for the Tanks as per PGS29 Section 8.3 must be designed in accordance
with the guidelines of the NFPA, in particular the NFPA 11, NFPA 14, NFPA 20, the NFPA 22 and the NFPA
24.

3.2 Fire Water Demand Analysis

For the purpose of fire water application rates, we follow the PGS29 “Fire-Protection Considerations for
the Design and Operation of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Storage Facilities “

3.2.1 Fire Design Scenario for Area 400

Largest Tank in Area 400 on Fire: In this scenario we assume Tank 402 Diameter 36m is on Fire with Roof
Lost.
During this scenario the following systems are activated

Note: In the tank bund area with fixed-roof tanks the assumed maximum burning area equals to the sur-
face of the tank bund minus the surface area of the tanks, the largest tank excluded.
For Tank Cooling Water Calculations Refer Fig. 1
For Bund Area Foam Calculations Refer Fig. 2

3.2.3 Butane Truck Fixed Water Spray System

There is butane truck station loading point near the Bund Area 400 Outside the bund wall near T-406.
The Truck pressure tank is covered with an automatic fixed cooling water spray system that covers all
exposed tank surface and pipe connections with a water application rate 10.0 L/min/m2.

3.3 Calculations
The proposed fire water and Foam Systems piping is modeled and analyzed with Fluidflow software.
Graphical results are attached in figure3.

The Following cases are analyzed:

1. Fixed Foam System for the Tanks. Design Scenario 3.2.1Tank Cooling Water for the Tanks. Design Sce-
nario 3.2.1.
For this scenario the new 16” Fire Water Ring is assumed to be connected only on the Area 300 exist-
ing Tie-ins 12”
2. PGS29 Fire Scenario for both bund area bund and all tanks simultaneous cooling

4 Conclusion

4.1 Base Scenario

The maximum flow rate design considered is 1100 m3/hr for design scenario described in section 3.2.1.
The existing fire water pumps have a total capacity 2 x 568 m3/hr = 1136 m3/hr and therefore fully sat-
isfy this scenario.

4.2 PGS 29-2016 Full Bund Area Surface Fire Design Scnario
For the new PGS 29-2016 scenario as described in 3.2.2 the total required flow is 4809 m3/hr the addi-
tion of a large Fire Pump station is mandatory. Taking into consideration the existing Fire Pumps capacity
we have the following requirement:

Fire Water Demand Fuul Bund Fire Design Scenario . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 4809 m3/hr
Existing Pumps 3 x 568 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1704 m3/hr
New Fire Pumps Additional Min. Required Flow . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3105 m3/hr
New Fire Pumps assuming 4 x 33% . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3 x 1035 m3/hr
Proposed New Fire Pumps Capacity assuming 4 x 33% . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 4 x 5000 Usgpm
Actual Fire Pump Duty Capacity 3 x 5000 Uspgm . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 3 x 1135 m3/hr
By installing 4 x 33% new fire pumps each at 5000 Usgpm capacity there is an extra fire water 300 m3/hr
capacity.
