DETAILED LESSON PLAN FORMAT

DLP No.: 1 Learning Area: Science Grade Level: Quarter: 1 Duration: 1 hr

10
Learning Describe the distribution of active volcanoes, earthquake epicenters, Code:
Competency/ies: and major mountain belts S9ES –Ia-j-36.1

Key Plates are broken segments of the lithosphere

concepts/Understa The plates move very slowly but constantly
nding to be Plate tectonics the theory of moving lithospheric plates
developed:
1. Objectives
Knowledge Describe the Plate Tectonics Theory

Skills Demonstrate the motion of plate tectonics

Attitude Display cooperation in doing group task

Values Practice respect for human rights

2. Content/Topic Plate Tectonics

3. Learning LM, TG, Internet, Hand outs, laptop, TV/LCD projector

s/Equipment
4. Procedures
4.1 Introductory Students will be given jumbled letters and it would form into “PLATE TECTONICS”. Ask for
Activity (minutes) volunteers, each letter will be given to one student so volunteers would combine their letters
to form words.
4.2 Activity Students are grouped together. Each group would be given a copy of the word puzzle. They
are going to answer it based on their prior knowledge.
4.3 Analysis Guide questions:
1. What was your idea about Pangaea?
2. How do you differentiate lithosphere from asthenosphere?
3. How do you describe convection?
4.4 Abstraction Short discussion:
Lithosphere is formed by the crust and the upper mantle
Crust is the outermost layer; two kinds: Continental crust, the thicker but less dense and
the Oceanic crust, relatively thinner but denser than continental crust
Plates are segments of the Earth’s lithosphere
` 1 Plate tectonics the lithospheric plates are slowly but constantly moving
4.5 Application

5. Assessment
Creative presentation on how the plates move based on plate tectonics.
(Make rubrics)

6. Assignment
What are the three types of seismic waves? Differentiate each.
