 DRAPE WEAVE TOP This uniquely draped top is complicated, but not difficult to sew. The tricky
parts will be matching up the pieces of fabric, and sewing the binding/
straps.
SUPPLIES: There will be some edges that are not sewn or finished. Since this is a knit,
• Fabric the raw edges will not ravel. If you prefer to finish them, you can turn them
under and stitch them. In this case, you will need to extend the seam allow-

sewn together. The five lower pattern pieces are sewn together at the top
only, where the 1/4” seam allowances appear. The bottom areas are left
loose, to be woven, and are sewn to the bottom edge of the Inside front
piece.

Stitch the woven pieces together along

Bust seam, using a 1/4” seam allowance, right sides together. Do the same
with Left Cf and the Left Bust seam. Turn the garment right side out.

 Using the gathering notes on the pattern pages, run gathering stitches along
the top armscye edges of the pattern pieces, and gather to fit the Inside
Front. Baste the overlay pieces to the inside front along the side seams and
armscyes.

Matching side seams, Stitch the front to back. Press and trim to 1/4”. Press
again. You can leave these seams raw. Since you have already hemmed the
back and the front is encased within the drapes, you should have a perfect-
ly finished hem.

To finish your top edges and create your straps:

Find the center of your fabric strip, and match it with the center of CB.
Align the cut edges to the front bust area on both right and left sides. Pin in
place, then stitch down, catching all layers and gathers.

Where the fabric stirp runs off the garment at the bust area, turn the edge
in by 1/4” and press in place (use Steam-A-Seam 2 as a shortcut, if desired)

Fold the OTHER edge of the strip in by 1/4” and press in place (use Steam-
A-Seam 2 as a shortcut, if desired). Fold the fabric strip up and over the
edge of your top, and fuse or pin into place. Fold all the way to the end of
the strip on both sides.

Run a line of stitching through all layers, completely encasing the garment
edge, and finishing the straps in one step.

You now have your top nearly complete. It just has straps hanging off the
edges.

To finish, simply tack the straps on the back pattern piece, and adjust to
get the best fit. Stitch in place along the original stitching line when you
have them adjusted, and trim any excess.

Your top is done!
