GENERALLY

A All earthworks are measured from the


existing ground level. The bulk excavation
for basement and general site earthwork
are measured in this Bill

B The Contractor shall be held to have visited


the site and ascertained the exact nature
and extent of the site and earthworks to be
carried out. No claim whatsoever in this
respect will be entertained

C The whole of the works are to be carried


out in a manner to be approved by the S.O.

D The Contractor's attention is specifically


drawn to the presence of existing building
surrounding the site and any constraints in
carrying out the works and he shall allow in
his rates for any costs and expenses arising
in this connection and no claims
whatsoever will be later entertained

E Excavation shall be executed in a manner


to ensure that no damage is caused to
permanent works such as bored pile,
etc. The Contractor shall allow in his
rates for working around/within the
restraint of these structures, hacking off
and removing bulging and overcast in
bored piles and any other obstructions

CLAUSE (cont'd)

A The Contractor's Professional Engineer


shall, jointly with the Contractor, prepare
complete and adequate designs, shop
drawings, specification, method statements,
sequence and schedule of placement of
all necessary temporary works such as
earth retaining structures, drainage and
dewatering or groundwater control
systems, ground movement monitoring
systems, protective hoardings, barricades
and signages and etc to enable the
excavation to be safely carried out and
maintained with minimal disturbance to
neighbouring structures, roads, and other
properties, all to the acceptance and
satisfaction of the S.O. The Contractor's
Professional Engineer shall be responsible
for supervising all temporary works
construction to the requirements of his
design and specification

B The Contractor is to note that he is fully


responsible for all design and construction,
maintenance throughout the duration of the
Contract and removal (if required) and in full
compliance to Authorities' requirements
of the works. The temporary works shown
in the tender drawings and quantities
measured herein are only indicative as a
guide for minimum requirements. The
Contractor shall make good, adapt and alter
or relocate as necessary throughout the
duration of the Contract.

C The Contractor is to allow for all other works


required whether measured herein or not,
necessary to enable the execution of the
works. No claim whatsoever in this respect
will be entertained

CLAUSE (cont'd)

A The Contractor and his Professional


Engineer shall supervise the performance
of all temporary works and monitor lateral
and vertical ground movements, including
related soil parameters such as
groundwater table level etc. All performance
measurement shall be recorded and made
available to the S.O. for his record. The
Contractor shall be responsible for and
execute in a timely manner all corrective
measures made necessary due to either his
failure to comply with the specified and/or
statutory imposed requirements on
permissible lateral and vertical ground
movements or any other inadequacy in his
design and/or construction of the temporary
works. The Contractor shall be responsible
for all consequent damages caused by his
failure to construct in accordance with his
submitted designs and method statements
or by his failure to adopt adequate safety
precautions and to observe good
engineering practices in his construction
operations

B The Contractor shall pay all Royalties and


the cost thereof shall be deemed to be
included in the tender rates

C Excavated materials from bulk excavation


works can be used to make up levels on
site, if approved by the S.O.

D The measurement of all excavation and


subsequent disposals shall be those
before excavation. All excavation and fillings
are measured nett. The increase in bulk
after excavation or shrinkage in
consolidation shall be allowed for in the
Contractor's rates

CLAUSE (cont'd)

A The rates for bulk excavation shall include


excavation below water table level,
excavating in whatever soil except rock, and
the formation of embankments on slopes
or terrace. The rates shall also held to
include all multiple handling on site

B Rates shall also be deemed inclusive of


excavation and backfilling around retaining
walls, if any

C The Contractor's rates shall also include for


working in adjacent areas of the site
boundary for the proper completion of the
works

D The Contractor shall note that the whole of


the earthwork are measured as bulk
earthworks and no allowance is made for
excavation in stages. The Contractor shall
allow in his excavation rates for complying
with this and no claim will be entertained

E The Contractor shall obtain the necessary


approval or permit from Local Authorities
having jurisdiction over dumping tip within
or outside territory. He shall indemnify the
Employer for any loss and expenses
arising from his illegal dumping without the
necessary approval or permit

E Allow for keeping the whole of the excavation


including excavation below water table level
free from rain and percolating water by
pumping, baling, or other dewatering
method to be approved by the S.O. Item

F Clear the site within the site boundary on flat
and/ or undulating ground surfaces as
shrubs, crops and superflous vegetation,
remove all fallen tree trunks, tree stumps,
etc., cut down existing trees, irrespective of
growth and girth, grub up roots, break up any
hardstandings etc. and all related works and
structures and remove all debris from site,
all to the satisfaction of the S.O.
