General improvements in FSMF compared to FSIA/B &
FSMC/D/E
•Number of RF Module interfaces (OBSAI):

•FSMF – 4 interfaces

•FSMF with 2 x FBBA – 6 Interfaces FSMF has twice the RF Module interface
capacity
•RF Module chaining capability per RP3

•FSMF – 6 Gbps (= 16 cells in WCDMA with 2RX)

•Power consumption (typical value)

FSMF has twice the cell capacity per OBSAI
•FSMF – 125W (with IP transport) interface

FSMF has 50% smaller power consumption

HSPA improvements in FSMF compared to FSIA/B &
FSMC/D/E 1/2
- FSMD/E: With 2 x FSMD/E, HSPA can not be split over SMs

• New baseband architecture in RU30 (1 GB baseband) uses internal SRIO (Serial Rapid IO)
chain between DSP processors for better timing and better HSPA and baseband capacity
(HSPA capacity increase ~200%, R99 capacity increase ~50%)
RFM

• Rel2 System Module does not have external SRIO interface i.e. when Extension System FSMD (Master)

Module is connected, there is no SRIO between System Modules and thus HSPA schedulers No SRIO
connector
in Master System Module cannot communicate with Extension System Module DSPs
FSMD (Extension)

•  If HSDPA scheduler exists e.g. in Master System Module, then Uplink ( A-DCH and
HSUPA) traffic needs to be also processed there

FSMF Features..

Public
Public
Public
Licensing aspects
• In RU 40 ,CE licenses are valid for R99 traffic

• HSDPA/HSUPA will have own capacity licenses that are called

respectively ‘HSDPA BTS processing sets 'and ‘HSUPA BTS
processing set’

Public
Rel99 CE licenses consumption:
• CCCH resources (if needed e.g. extended cell case) from pure System
Module rel.2 BTS
• R99 users (PS, CS services)
• A-DCH (Associated DCH)

HSDPA BTS processing set

• Each HSDPA BTS processing set has certain capacity of users and HSDPA
throughput
• There are three types of HSDPA BTS processing set licenses – from 1 to 3
• Processing set does not guarantee the maximum user amount and
throughput but additional features are needed (e.g. 64-QAM, 10/15 HS-
PDSCH codes, 72HSPA users per cell)

Public
HSUPA BTS processing set
• In RU40 HSUPA BTS processing set license allows for allocation of 24
HSUPA UEs and 5.8Mbps throughput

• R99 UEs can be allocated into one HSUPA processing set (per LCG) even
there is no R99 CE license (48 Rel99 CE)

• HSUPA BTS processing set does not enable peak UL throughputs, but it
can limit those (as HSDPA BTS processing set does for DL throughput).
For achieving peak UL throughputs customer needs to buy separate
license for peak throughput features like HSUPA 16QAM.

Public
HSUPA and HSDPA BTS
processing sets

• HSDPA BTS processing set 1: 32 users and 7.2Mbps

• HSDPA BTS processing set 2: 72 users and 21Mbps

• HSDPA BTS processing set 3: 72 users and 84Mbps

• HSUPA BTS processing set 1: 24 users and 5.8Mbps

Public
Local Cell Group
• Local Cell Grouping allows splitting available baseband capacity into
baseband pools responsible for processing traffic from dedicated group of
cells.
• Local Cell Grouping may be needed in case of BTSs with many cells, and
can be used in Multi Operator RAN (MORAN) case.
• When Local Cell Grouping is done – available BTS capacity is split among
LCG according to BTS commissioning settings. Baseband allocation to
LCG is constant

• System module is restored to a plain, factory delivered condition.

• FSMD:- RFSToolv2_213
• FSMF:- RFSToolv3_107

When to Use
• A problem happened during installation/commissioning phase when
new/replacement unit has been installed to network.
• BTS Site Manager connection cannot be established.
• SW mismatches between different Flexi BTS HW modules. SW download
progress may not start at all or is partly downloaded to BTS but not
completely.
• Commissioning steps cannot be successfully completed. BTS cannot
become operational with normal re-commissioning steps.

Public
• FSM cannot be reused in another BTS site due to existing site
configuration and licensing configuration.
• FSM needs to be reused in another technology.

Steps..
1) Uncompress RFSToolv3 delivery package to local directory

2) PC's network properties shall be specified to match the following

settings: IP address as 192.168.255.126 & subnet mask as
255.255.254.0.
3) Store target SW (in zip format) to directory .\ RFSToolv3\BTSSW\

CE count:

There are two FSPx’s in FSMD & one in FSIA.

RU20 (WN6.0)
Each FSPx have 7 Faraday’s (DSPs). So total CE count in FSMD =
(7+7)*36=504, Out of which 396 are available for traffic use since rest is
used for control signalling.

In FSIA CE count is, 7*36 = 252, i.e. 250.

i.e. In RU20, one FSPx constitutes ~250 CEs.

Public
RU30 (WN7.0)
Each FSPx have 7 Faraday’s (DSPs). So total Rel.99 CE count in
FSMD = (7+7)*48=672. In RU30, Subunits count also introduced along
with Rel.99 CE, HSDPA & HSUPA processing sets. 14 Subunits are
there in FSMD, out of which 12 SU are available for traffic: therefore,
Rel.99 CE available is 12*48 = 576.

In FSIA out of seven, 6 SU is available for traffic. So Rel.99 CE for

traffic is, 6*48 = 288
The main diff. b/w RU20/RU30 is that, each DSP in an FSPx was
having 36 & 48 CE capacity each.

Sample calculation in the attachment.

1 to 4 HSDPA PS2 licenses utilizes 2.25 SUs & each HSUPA PS1
uses 1.5 SUs. (for 1 LCG - Local Cell Group & non-MIMO)

Number of SUs used by Rel.99 CEs is obtained by dividing the

Rel.99 CE value by 48.

Total SU should be maximum 12 in the case of FSMD & 5 in the

case of FSIA (without FBIA).
