Unit: 5-Rosemary and the Four Gutsy Gnomes

Topic: Fairytales

Content Standard: 1.1 By the end of the 6-year primary schooling, pupils will be to pronounce
words and speak with correct rhythm, stress and intonation.

Learning Standard: 1.1.2 Able to talk about related topics with guidance.

Objectives: By the end of the lesson, children should be able to:


a) Talk about fairy tales
b) Talk about the book cover on page 41.
c) Predict the storyline based on the book cover and illustrate their
predictions using 5 pictures.
Teaching Aids: Textbook, worksheet, A4 paper

Activities: 1. Teacher introduces the subject “Fairy tale stories” to the


students. Teacher brings in some fairy tale books in to show the
class or some pictures of fairy tale characters.
2. Teacher asks students to talk in small groups and discuss their
favourite fairy tales. Which fairy tales are the most
popular? Discuss as a class.
3. Teacher gives this exercise to the students to assess their
knowledge of fairy tales.

What’s the word?


First, students review the vocabulary as it is on the
worksheet. Teacher asks students if they can remember any of
the fairy tale words they learned on p.42 in the textbook.

Bingo
Group - Play bingo to review the activity. Ask students to draw a
grid in their notebook and write any of the fairy tale words on the
grid in any order (everyone’s grid should be different). For
example:

fairy castle queen

crown monster gold

magic wand carriage gnome

4. Group - Teacher and students discuss the book cover. The


students name the characters on the book cover and predict what
the story will be about based on the book cover. The students
refer to page 42 to find out the name of each character.
5. Group - After the discussion, teacher appoints a group of students
to represent the characters on the book cover. Then, the students
do a pose similar to the characters on the book cover to re-enact
the picture.
6. Group - The students brainstorm what they think will happen in
the story (1-2 sentences)
7. After a suitable time, each group presents their story line in front
of the class. Which group has the funniest? Most surprising?
8. Exercise test.
