CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION

1.1 BACKGROUND

Based on demand of PT. Bungasari Flour Mills Indonesia on the date of 17 July 2017, PT.
SUCOFINDO (Persero) was requested to do a building assesment and structure analysis
Manufacturing Facilities of PT. Agri First Indonesia located in Kawasan Industri Medan II,
called Project Aurora.

Buildings that have been operated in a certain period of time allows decrease (degradation)
the reliability of buildings that will affect the aspects of safety, health and comfort of building
operation.

This is understandable because of the nature of building construction materials which tend to
decrease the ability in line with the length of service life caused by the corrosion, damage due
to fatigue or the effects of changes in the function of buildings which resulted in a change of
load that allows the cracks, or other damage.

The decrease of the reliability of the building can also be affected by natural disasters
(earthquake, flood / tsunami, high rainfall, rising sea levels, erosion, wind, etc.) and the
occurrence of environmental degradation due to loss of vegetation and catchment / water
absorption / catchment area.

The most fatality from the degradation of the reliability of the building is the disruption of the
continuity of operations (economic losses) and the risk of accidents that can cause harm either
internally or externally is materially, morally and even human lives.

Therefore, PT. Bungasari Flour Mills Indonesia Requires building assessment and structure
analysis done by PT. SUCOFINDO (Persero) to know informations about industrial facilities
and worthiness from technical aspect.

1.2 MEANING

Giving assessment service and structure analysis about Industrial Facilities of PT. Agri First
Indonesia Medan in order to know the existing capacity, recommendations for improvement
as standard requirement that applicable to building structure.

1.3 PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT

The purpose of this work is follows :

a) Getting technical information about existing facilities condition

b) Getting technical information of existing quality, concrete condition and tensile strength
c) Getting result of evaluation about existing structure capacity

1.4 SCOPE OF WORK

Scope of inspection and testing activities of buildings include assessment service and
structure analysis of industrial facilities of PT. Agri First Indonesia Medan.

As for breakdown from scope of work is as follows :

- Conduct visual survey and review document of existing condition of buildings

- Conduct Non Destructive Test (NDT) for estimating quality of concrete and tensile
strength
- Conduct Verification of measuring/ dimensioning of existing structure
- Conduct analysis of existing structure both upper and lower structure

The reference and legal basis used in the assessment activities, structural analysis and design
anchor concrete this time include :

a. Undang-Undang No. 28 Tahun 2002 tentang Bangunan Gedung.

b. Undang-undang No. 1 No tahun 1970, tentang Keselamatan Kerja
c. Peraturan Pemerintah No. 36 tahun 2005 tentang Pelaksanaan UU No. 28/2002.

1.6 WORK LOCATION

The Location of the work is in Kawasan Industri Medan II ,Jl. Pulau Pinang V No.9, Saentis,
Kabupaten Deli Serdang, Sumatera Utara.

1.7 WORKING SCHEDULE

The field work is started on August 07 2017 and is scheduled to be completed until final report
within 45 (forty five) days from the commencement date of field work.
