Home Appliances Control Systems Using RF

(ABSTRACT)

This is a new type remote control by using RF communication technology, which is a

portable electronic device. It gives lot of comfort to the user since we can operate it by
staying at one place. In this project a remote has been designed for controlling (ON/OFF) the
home appliances like Light, Fan and TV etc.

Radio Frequency (RF) refers specifically to the electromagnetic field, or radio wave, that is
generated when an alternating current is input to an antenna. This field can be used for
wireless broadcasting and communications over a significant portion of the electromagnetic
radiation spectrum -- from about 9 kilohertz (kHz) to thousands of gigahertz (GHz) --
referred to as the RF spectrum. As the frequency is increased beyond the RF spectrum,
electromagnetic energy takes the form of infrared, visible light, ultraviolet, X rays and
gamma rays.

At the receiving section RF receiver is present, which has high sensitivity and with this it
senses the transmitted rays by the RF transmitter. Whenever we press corresponding key in
the remote it generates the corresponding RF signal with help of RF encoder, and these
signals are received by the RF receiver unit and decode the signals. After this the logical
circuit controls corresponding appliances.

COMPONENTS:

 HT12E encoder IC
 HT12D decoder IC
 RF 434 MHz transmitter and receiver
 Resistors – 33k,750k
 220 ohm Resistors – 4
 Slide switches – 2
 SPST relays – 1
Block diagram:

ADVANTAGES:
 Works for longer distances as compared to IR.
 RF signals can travel even there is an obstruction between transmitter and receiver.
APPLICATIONS:
 Used for remote control applications like burglar alarm, car door alarm, calling bell,
security systems, etc.
LIMITATIONS
 The mode of communication is complex.
 As we are using ICs, they consume more power.
