Hello fellow Hixon community members

Our Fall Fair is an annual event that brings family and friends, and
neighbours together taking part with creating a float for the
Parade, entering your fine crafts or well-tended garden produce,
trying your hand at some of the games, polishing that beloved car for
the car show, grooming your horse and practicing your skills for the
horse show, all while working up an appetite for dinner then busting
out your latest dance moves in the evening.

Our little town has it all!

The events are organized by an amazing group of volunteers from

within our community who invest their time and energy into ensuring
the Fall Fair Fund raiser is an enjoyable event for all our community
members year after year.

This year the Fall Fair Committee was made up these fine people who
shared their skills and expertise to make this day a success. Linda
Bolstad, Kay Broadhead, Cory Vernon, Joanne Kirkland, Art Kaehn,
Willie McCauley Kassy Merritt, Kayla Brownscombe, Debbie Shultz
Sherry Hall, Pat Sutter, and myself.

If you happened to be related to, live next door, or made brief eye
contact in passing with any of them, you may have found yourself
volunteering with kitchen duties, selling tickets, mowing grass,
making a donation, collecting a donation, working games, holding a
horse, directing cars, judging entries, and the list goes on. Without
YOU our event would not be such a success. THANK YOU!

It has been a pleasure to work together with these dedicated hard-

working individuals. We have enjoyed planning this year’s Fall Fair
and the friendship and camaraderie we made along the way.

Thank you all for your leadership and support. Looking forward to
seeing you Aug 18 & 19, at the Hixon Fall Fair and Car show.

The Communities of Woodpecker and Hixon welcome you to
the 37th Annual Hixon Fall Fair. This year's theme is "It's
all about Community" and it captures why it is so
enjoyable to live within our communities.

The Hixon Fall Fair follows in the footsteps and the great
tradition of the earlier popular Woodpecker Fall Fair.

For over the past 60 years, the Annual Parade has

enthusiastically marched along Highway 97 through
downtown Hixon.

The Woodpecker and Hixon residents extend

congratulations to the Hixon Fall Fair Committee of the
Hixon Community Association for organizing another
community focused and successful event.

There is plenty to enjoy this weekend at the Hixon Fall

Fair and Hixon Show and Shine. So make a weekend of it in
Hixon!

Divisions 2 to 10 will be judged according to the Danish System (each item
will be judged on its own merits).

Grand Aggregate will be awarded as follows:

Overall Divisions 2–10 Sponsored by the Hixon Community Association.

Entry Fee $1.00 / entry. Ribbons will be given to 3rd place. All exhibits
must be delivered to the Hall between the hours of 3 – 8p.m. on Friday. If
entering late, they will be shown as display item only. Exhibits must be the
work of the exhibitor and never shown at previous Hixon Fall Fairs. Please fill
out entry forms prior to entering.
Please be sure all plant exhibits are bug free.

Judges decisions are final, any protests or appeals must be made in writing and
mailed to the Hixon Community Association. All exhibits must be removed
from the hall by 4pm, Saturday, for supper / dance set-up. All classes will be
judged Jr. (15 & under) and Sr. (16 & older). Professional gardeners are
welcome to compete under commercial category.

Judging Standards:

 Colour:The colour should be bright, clear and attractive. Colour in

vegetables is largely a matter of condition and is a good index on the
care given to the vegetables. Usually a dark or rich colour is preferred.

 Condition:The condition of vegetables refers to their freedom from

blemishes caused by insects, diseases, dirt, and mechanical damage.

 Size:Size should be moderate, not large, that is the size in which all the
other qualities of the variety are found to their greatest perfection.

 Uniformity: Specimens should be as uniform as possible in colour,

maturity, shape, and size. This standard adds considerably to the
competitiveness. NOTE: Please cut off all tops and place vegetables
and fruit on plates or in container.
