Above installation clearance requirements apply to all YCAB-B units

Requirements for location and clearance

1. To prevent air return in the condenser and avoid malfunction, York recommends min. unit clearance, as illustrated in
figure 3 and figure 4. If units are installed in parallel, make sure the min. clearance between two adjacent units is
3600mm. If such clearance cannot be guaranteed, air that flows through the coil will be limited or the exhaust air will
return. As a result, performance of the unit may be affected or malfunction will be the case.
2. To ensure enough airflow to condenser coil, what needs to be put into consideration is the influence by the downward
airflow from surrounding high-rise buildings on the exhaust air from the unit.
3. If the unit is installed at the location where there is dynamic airflow, like exposed roof, lower wall or louver can be
considered as measures against the interference on air intake by disturbed airflow. If lower wall is required for unit,
make sure its height should never exceed the unit. If louver is adopted, the static pressure outside the fan should be more
than total loss of the static pressure. Clearance between unit and lower wall or louver still needs to conform to the min.
installation clearance required for the unit.

11
Unit outline and Air cooled-scroll hermetic
installation requirement chiller/heat pump YCAB-B

4. If the unit is to be operated in winter, plus the installation location has snow already, unit needs to be elevated and higher
than snow height so that air can smoothly flow through the coil.

Installation check list

Prior to installation, please check the unit for following:
1. Check the unit for any transportation damage
2. Prior to connection to water pipes, do not remove protective cover from flange or threaded connector. Check to insure
the pipeline is clean.
3. Connect the pipeline in a correct way.
4. Check the installation and operation to make sure they meet the requirements for running the unit.

Following is the installation procedure:

Handling
This unit is shipped as completely assembled unit containing full operating charge, and care should be taken to avoid damage
due to rough handling.

Unit is shipped without wood pack, unless Sales Order specifies.

When lifting, make sure the lifting hook is in close contact with the holes in base rails to prevent the lifting chains damaging
the unit.

Inspection
Immediately upon receiving the unit, it should be inspected for possible damage, which may have occurred during transit. If
damage is evident, it should be noted on the carrier’s freight bill. A written request for inspection by the carrier’s agent should
be made at once.

Foundation
The unit should be mounted on a flat and level foundation, floor or rooftop, capable of supporting the entire operating weight
of the equipment. See “Unit performance datasheet” for operating weight. If the unit is elevated beyond the normal reach of
service personnel, a suitable catwalk must be constructed around the unit. The catwalk must be capable of supporting service
personnel and their equipments.

Installation location
Outdoor installation
The unit can be installed on the ground or suitable roof where there must be enough airflow. Try to not install the unit on
where noise and vibration should be avoided

The unit installation location should be free of direct sunlight, far away from boiler chimney and environment where the
aluminum/copper condenser and other copper components will be subject to corrosion.

If the unit is installed at location where unauthorized person can get access to, please arrange safety protections around the
unit, like fence, so that artificial or unexpected damage can be avoided or the control panel will not be opened to expose
electrical components.

When installed on the ground, steel base of the unit must be mounted on flat and level concrete foundation. Foot-stands of the
concrete foundation must extend below the frost earth line. Make sure, unit foundation must not be connected to the main
building foundation in case of transfer of noise and vibration.

Mounting holes are provided on unit steel base for firmly bolting unit to foundation.

When unit is installed on the roof, such roof must be capable of supporting the weigh of unit and service personnel. Unit can
be mounted on the concrete foundation or steel channel similar to on ground. Holes on steel channel must be coaxial to
mounting holes of shock absorber on unit, plus such steel channel must be wide enough for installation of shock absorber.

For any request for special installation location, please consult with construction contractor or building designer or other
professionals.

12
Unit outline and Air cooled-scroll hermetic
installation requirement chiller/heat pump YCAB-B

Indoor installation
The unit can be installed in the house, but the ground must be flat and be capable of supporting operating weight of unit.
Clearance must ensure adequate airflow through coil. Air exhaust pipe should be installed on top of the unit to exhaust the air
so that airflow return inside house can be avoided.
Arranging louver on unit house to offer good ventilation is recommended.
Fan required for indoor installation needs to generate airflow with high static pressure. Static outside pressure: 100Pa.
Note: Selection of air exhaust pipe, silencer and louver for incoming air must consider the principle: total static pressure loss
of those components will not exceed static pressure outside the fan. If necessary, add air suction and exhaust fans to ensure
airflux and avoid cooling capacity loss
For indoor installation, connecting a copper pipe from relief valve of the unit to outside.

Shock absorber installation

With the 6 14mm installation holes on the steel base, unit can be bolted on the foundation through spring shock absorbers.
For distance between centers of installation holes, please refer figue1 & 2.

YCAB-B air-cooled chiller/heat pump is equipped with spring shock absorber which has compression set of 15~25mm. For
installation on the roof of high-rise building or at vibration sensitive area, please consult on selection of shock absorber.

Shock absorber installation procedure:

1. Flatness of concrete foundation must remain within 7 3mm. Lift up the unit about 135mm.
2. Remove the lockup nut off the shock absorber as illustrated in figure 5.
3. Put the unit on the absorbs, and install bolts of the absorber inside the fixing holes on the unit steel base.
4. Put back the lockup nuts on the bolt of absorber and screw them in.
5. Adjust working height of absorber. Screw in leveling nut and adjust the working height to 130mm. Screw in the nuts
around one by one to insure working height is the same for all absorbers.
6. When correct working height is reached, tighten the lockup nut.

Note: It is suggested mount the shock absorber on the foundation with two fixation holes. Once unit is located in place on the
foundation, never move the connected shock absorbers. Do not tighten the lockup nut before shock absorber is loaded

General requirements
When the unit has been located in its final position, the unit water piping may be connected. Normal installation precautions
should be observed. Piping should be kept free of all foreign matter. All liquid cooler piping must comply in all respects with
local plumbing codes and ordinances.
1. Prior to unit operation, run a complete flush to the cooler piping to make sure there is no foreign material left over in the
line. Also be careful to not flush any foreign material into evaporator.
2. Water flow must go through inlet into heat exchanger. If water flow through heat exchanger is in reverse direction, unit
performance will be worse.
3. A water flow switch must be installed in the leaving water piping of the unit to against flow stoppage. There should be a
straight horizontal run of at least 5 diameters on each side of the switch. For installation for water flow switch, please
strictly follow “Guideline to water flow switch installation and commissioning”. The unit which uses plate heat
exchanger is already equipped with water flow switch, and flow rate & parameters are already set up. Please do not reset
the flow rate on site. Neither an extra water flow switch is required. Water flow switch should be connected to control
panel through shielded cable (Please refer to electrical connection diagram for more details). Working pressure for water
flow switch is 150Psig, connector is 25mmNPT. For shell-tube heat exchanger, after installation of pipeline, adjust the
settings for water flow switch till suitable value based on rated water flow for the unit.
4. Water pump installed in the water line needs a starter. Water pump will directly pump the water to heat exchanger.
5. Auxiliary pipe and pipe connector must be supported on separate support, but not on the unit.
6. Pipeline and pipe connectors for heat exchanger must be removable for operation and cleaning, and for inspection of
evaporator connection pipe.
7. On site, install a 40-mesh filter for evaporator (Note: the unit which uses plate heat exchanger is already equipped with
water filter in factory). Water filter should be just ahead of the evaporator and be insulated.
8. Bypass pipe and bypass valve as illustrated in figure 6 must be installed so that it is very convenient for cleaning of
external water system before unit commissioning. During maintenance, inlet/outlet pipe for heat exchanger can be
switched off without interference with other heat exchangers.
9. Heat exchanger piping should be connected through flexible connectors in order to against transmission of vibration.
10. For convenience for maintenance, install thermometer or pressure gauge on return and leaving water pipes. Unit is not
equipped with thermometer or pressure gauge. Customers need to buy for themselves.
11. Drain connection should be install at all low points to permit complete drainage of liquid cooler and piping system. A
valve or valves should be installed at the highest point or points in the chilled liquid piping to allow any trapped air to be
purged. Vent and drain connections should be extended beyond the insulation to make them accessible.
12. Water pipes within the system, which might be frozen, must be insulated, including the flange of heat exchanger.
13. The chilled liquid lines that are exposed to outdoor ambient should be wrapped with a supplemental heater cable to
protect against freeze-up during low ambient periods. Power supply for heater must be provided with separate fuse.

14. When the temperature is below 0 and unit stops, liquid chiller must be drained to avoid freezing damage to unit.
Heating pump is not in operation for long time in winter, please also drain away water. If not drain, do not switch off the
power supply for the unit. Fan coil terminal units that connect to the chiller should be equipped with three-way valve to
ensure water circulation once pump is started.
15. For units in a network, please install the water temperature sensor on the public outlet water line.

14
Unit outline and Air cooled-scroll hermetic
installation requirement chiller/heat pump YCAB-B
Warning:
For water plumbing, including filter and heat exchanger, dreg and water scale will seriously damage heat exchanger.
Installer/customers must ensure water quality and no trapped air in water system, as air can oxidize steel parts inside the heat
exchanger.

Guideline to water flow switch installation and commissioning

1. Before installation, carefully check the packaging and water flow switch for any damage or deformation. If there is any
problem, please contact manufacturer.
2. Flow switch can be installed on the horizontal pipeline or vertical pipeline in which liquid flows upward. Do not install
the flow switch on the vertical pipeline in which liquid flows downward. When installed on vertical pipeline in which
liquid flows upward, take into consideration the weight of water.
3. There should be a straight horizontal run of at least 5 diameters on each side of the switch. Make sure liquid inside the
pipeline must flow in the same direction as indicated on the switch. Its wiring terminal must be located in an accessible
place (Figure a)
4. When installing and wiring, pay attention to following issues:
Do never touch the bottom plate of flow switch with the spanner. If doing so, flow switch may be failure (Figure b)
Switch off the power before wiring or commissioning to avoid electric shock or damage to equipment.
Whilst wiring, do not adjust any other screws except those for micro switch terminal or grounding. Please pay attention,
excessive force when wiring on micro switches may result in micro switch displacement and lead to failure. (Figure c)
Grounding must adopt professional grounding screws. Do not remove or dismantle the screws as want, otherwise it will
cause the switch failure.
Flow switch has been set up with min. flow value before delivery out of factory. Do not adjust the setting to the value
lower than factory setup; otherwise it may cause the switch failure. After installation, check the flow switch by pressing
on the levers for flow switch. Once there is no click heard after the lever springs back, turn clockwise the adjustment
screw until a click is heard.
Please select flow switch trigger in accordance with rated flux, diameter of leaving water pipe and adjustment range for
flow switch trigger (Please refer to the manual) Also make sure such trigger must not touch inside wall of the pipe or
other throttles in the pipeline. If doing so, flow switch will not reset as normal.
5. Based on the testing values obtained from flow meter, judge whether flow switch or the system connected to it are
functioning or not. That is, if the tested value from flow meter is less than 60% of the rated flux, the flow switch should
cut off the power of unit. Observe it for three working cycles, and then capped its cover timely.

Water treatment

Cooling capacity in performance datasheet is given based on scale coefficient of 0.044m2 /kW. Dirt, water scale, grease
and specific water treatment will cause adverse influence on efficiency of heat exchange and unit performance. Foreign
materials inside the water will increase pressure drop inside the heat exchanger, reduce flow rate and cause mechanical
damage to pipe clusters of the heat exchanger. Alkalescent water is not recommended. Life of the heat exchanger will be
reduced if water contains air. Consultation with water treatment experts is recommended by York to find out what quality for
the water will not influence performance of the heat exchanger.

Note
1. Water quality should be inspected before unit installation and regularly during unit operation. The parameters of water
quality should meet the demand as above form. Once the parameter is over the limit, the heat exchanger will leak for
corrosion and is possible to have serious scale formation.
2. When the parameter of water quality in projects that trend to corrosion is over the limit for a long time, the heat
exchanger will leak for corrosion. The unit cannot operate normally and use as usal.
3. When the parameter of water quality in projects that trend to scale formation is over the limit for a long time, heat
exchanger will have serious scale, which effects heat exchange and drops the cooling (heating) capacity directly.
Users should take on the lost that comes from the unqualified users’ water quality.

Pressure relief valve for refrigerant pipeline

For sake of safety, pressure relief valve for refrigerant is installed on the suction pipeline for shell pipe heat exchanger. When
unit is installed indoor, run a copper pipe from the pressure relief valve to outside.

Air pipe
For air exhaust pipe for the fan, recommended section area should be the same as that for air outlet from the fan and min.
1000mm straight pipe piece must be retained against return flow.

Air pipe should be suspended with shock absorber to avoid transmission of noise and vibration to building.

The fan should be connected through flexible connectors with air pipe to avoid transmission of vibration. Flexible connector
should not be flexible hose.

Unit is not designated to support the weight of building or air pipeline. Except the 1000mm light air pipe, do not settle other
weights on the unit. Air pipe should be installed at proper location with separate support to avoid shearing pressure caused by
air flow.

When air pipes of each fan are connected to the general pipeline, a check valve is recommended to avoid air return.

2. “Safety precautions” list up all the precautions in relation to safety. Please strictly follow these instructions.
3. Note: Please carefully read all the labels on the control panel.

Wiring requirements
Warning:
Use only the electric components specified by our company. Contact manufacturer or authorized dealer for installation and
technical service. If the wiring does not conform to electrical installation specification, it may cause controller to fail or
electric shock.

Users should never try to do the repairing themselves. Any improper repair to controller may cause electric shock or damage
to the controller. If customers have any request for repair, please contact York service center.

1. No controlling components are required to be added to the control panel (like relay), Power supply or control circuit that
is not connected to the control panel is not allowed to run through control panel. Otherwise, electromagnetic interference
may cause malfunction or damage to unit or control components. Consequently, warranty will be null.
2. All the cables that are connected to the control panel need separate support. Do not support them on the control panel.
3. High voltage power cable will normally run through control panel. 220VAC also runs through control board. Please
separate strong power and weak power when wiring the system. Power cable should be kept 100mm away from signal
cable.
4. Unit can only operate with 380V- 3Ph -50Hz, min. allowable power supply is 342V, max. allowable is 418V.
5. All the electrical circuits must comply with local wiring regulations. Proper cables must go through the holes in the
bottom of the control panel to the wiring terminals for power supply. According to Chinese standards, customers have
the obligations to provide over current protection to the units supplied by York.
6. Warning: All the power supplies connected to the unit must go through a master circuit breaker (not supplied by York) so
that when the circuit breaker triggers, all the voltages on the whole circuit for the unit will be released.
7. ! Note: Use only the correct cables for power supply system for the unit. Unit must use separate power supply
system. Unit is prohibited to share power supply with other electrical appliances to avoid overload. Fuse for power
supply system and circuit breaker must match up with working voltage and current for the unit.
8. In the control panel, customers need to provide power supply for part of the voltage-free contacts, rated voltage is
220VAC, and rated current is 3A. For the power supply for the voltage-free contact, customers can only take power
supply from the master circuit breaker for the whole unit so that when the circuit breaker triggers, all the voltages on the
whole circuit for the unit will be released.
9. All the sensitive components (contactors, coil of the relay) that are under the control by York voltage-free contacts must
be controlled with standard capacitor suppressor so that electromagnetic interference can be avoided. Consequently, unit
and its controller will malfunction or be damaged.
10. All the weak power cables connected to control panel must be shielded cable. Shield layer must be properly grounded.
Shield cable must be separate from power cable to avoid electromagnetic interference.
11. ! Note: Unit must be properly grounded. DO not connect this grounding line with those for gas, fuel lines, water pipe,
thunder rod or telephone. Improper grounding might cause unexpected electric shock. Frequently check unit grounding.

Operation notes
1. When operating the unit, do not press the button with sharp tools to avoid damage to controller.
2. Do not twist or pull the electrical cable inside the control panel. Otherwise, wiring may be loose and control system may
malfunction.
3. Do not use Benzene, thinker or chemical agents to clean controller or control components. If doing so, system may
discolor or malfunction. When cleaning the dirt, please dip the cloth into water with neutral cleaning agent. After the
cloth is dry, use if for cleaning. Then use clean and try cloth to clean up controller or control cabinets.
