Week Thirteen Journal

Throughout the week of August 6 to August 10, 2018 I have continued to use and

build upon my administrative skills. This week was very light, as we are winding down

the internship. However, I did host a meeting with the regional director to train staff on

how to gather monthly numbers. Together we were able to break down how to arrive at

the percentages that Safe Return’s funding source is looking for. Subsequently, I

provided supervision with my field supervisor and our intern. We were able to explain

counseling and de-escalation techniques, as well as give her feedback and evaluate her

work. I made sure to use positive reinforcement and employ an empathetic stance.

Lastly, I have continued to conduct outreach events to educate the public about the Safe

Return program.

I believe I am very confident in all three activities I conducted this week. I have

worked hard throughout the internship to become confident with administrating various

human service roles. I think I am able to hold meeting, supervise staff, and conduct

outreach with ease. Moving forward, my plan is to continue with activities that will build

upon my administrative skills. I will continue to seek opportunities to utilize these skills

in other avenues within my career.
