ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
In completion of this SBA investigation research project, I would like to convey my sincere towards
completing this investigation project throughout the one week investigation.

Firstly, I would like to thank our heavenly father for giving me knowledge, wisdom and
understanding that brightened the idea when compiling this project.

Secondly, special thanks to my teacher Mr Basil Wasiia for explaining and giving some contributing
ideas on how to carry out this SBA projects.

Finally, I would like to thank my fellow classmates for assisting me on some ideas towards the
completion of this project.

AIMS / OBJECTIVES
The main aim/ objectives of this investigation project is to investigate the growth of plants under direct
sunlight and to know whether they get energy from sunlight directly or not.

BACKGROUND OF THE ISSUE

WHERE PLANTS GET THEIR FOOD?

Plants are very mud alive; they are living things just like people and animals. They grow and die. They
produce energy, nutrients, air, water but they rarely move around. Many of the plants are green and
have a substance called CHLOROPHIL.

Plants tissues are made up of a great variety of chemicals substances but apart from water which made
up so much of plants. Plants use energy from directly sunlight to make their own food in their leaves.
This process is called Photosynthesis. Sun provide light in the form of energy where plants need in their
entire system or plants cell tissue in order for the plant to grow well. Therefore the growth of plant
depends entirely on the energy from the sun. However some plant grow dense from shades of big trees
and some were expose to direct sunlight.

The leaves are the main organs that absorbs the light and as the plants grows, they spread out and expose
to light as much as possible. The light energy absorb by a leaf is used to manufactured food. The leafs
are pigment (Chlorophyll) and green coloured leaves makes food which makes plants uses carbon
dioxide, water, nutrients and energy from the sunlight.

QUESTION

Did plants grow better under direct sunlight?

HYPOTHETICAL STATEMENT

1. HYPOTHETICAL 1: Plants grow better under direct sunlight due to the process to
the process of photosynthesis.

2. HYPOTHETICAL 2: Plant cannot grow well under shades of the trees due to
sufficient sunlight

METHODOLOGY

The investigation of plants (weeds) research was done by investigating the school vicinity. From the
library to form 5 blue classes and beside the ablution block, are the target areas used for this
investigation projects.

When investigating these area, there I identify and observe the plants growing in different locations or
directions of sunlight. Some are grow well or have green leafs and other not.

Thus, this investigation is done in one (1) week internal Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
(See Appendix 1).

DISCUSSION

The investigation was successfully carried out in three plot areas at Vura Community High School
campus. In these three plot area, the investigation is done based on how plants achieve sun light as their
source of energy for their growth and production of their food. Therefore the three plot areas a discussed
below.

AREA (1).

The findings and observation from area 1. The plant grows very slow due to human activities like cutting
of the grass using grass cutter. The plants are light green in colour and very sturdy.

AREA (2)

The plants were quite grow big but due to disturbance of human activities, they were disturbed in
growth. People use this plot area for short cut road which disturbed the plant’s growth. This plot also
plants grow under the shade of trees and therefore they have soft texture, weak growth and dark in
colour

AREA (3)

By observing the plot area (3). The plants growth at this plot were small and crowded together. Although
they grow small but they are in the position where sunlight was directly shine at. There is no any shade
trees. Therefore the plants are well green in colour and also strong and thick

From the three plot areas of investigation, I found out that plants really need sunlight in order for then
to grow healthy. This was prove from the investigation that some plants under the shade of big tree
were found their way by bend their body (stem) towards the sunlight. Therefore in order for plant to
grow healthy, they must access to sunlight.

CONCLUSION
From the one week investigation, I brought out the conclusion that plants really depends on sunlight to
grow, and using the energy to produce their own food in the process known as Photosynthesis. The prof
was shown during the investigation that plants which grow under the direct sunlight are get more energy
and have healthy growth. This was shown from their leafs are coloured green which indicate plant
healthy growth

However as of the opposite of the direct sunlight, plants grow under shades of the tree are seems to
grow unhealthy due to lack of sunlight source. So it is very important for all the plants needs to grow
under the direct of sunlight in order for them to grow healthy and the process of Photosynthesis to
function properly and regularly for the entire life span of each plants growth.

RECOMMENDATION
During the investigation, I’ve came across some situations which affects plants growth in each spot
area.

 I would like to recommend the using these areas for short cut road should stop. Because they
disturb the growth of plants.

 Secondly I also like to recommend that selection of areas for investigation should done
properly. Student should select proper plot where both plants grow under the shade and direct
sunlight are included.

 Lastly is, one week is not enough to do investigation. Plants are slowly grow and therefore it
needs more time to investigate in order to obtain better solutions or result.
