Power Line Contact Procedures

Stay on Equipment
Genarally it is safe for operator to
stay on equipment in contact with
powerline as long as the operator

does not touch the equipment and
the ground at the same time. In
fact, touching anything in contact
with the ground can be fatal.

Keep Others Away

Warn everyone not to touch the
equipment or its load. That meand
buckets, load lines, outrigger and any

other part of the machine.

WARNING: Beware of time-delayed

relays. Even after line damage trips
breakers, relays may still try to restore
power.
If possible, break contact by moving
the equipment clear of the wires.

Call Electricity
Authority
Get someone to call the Electricity Authority
for help.

Unless
there is fire or other danger, stay on the
equipment until the utility authority shuts
down the line and confirms that power is off
or the equipment has been moved clear of
contact.
Report every
incident of powerline contact so that the utility
can check for damage that could cause the
line to fail later.
