DEVELOPMENT OF THE LESSON

ACTIVITY 1: PRE-READING ACTIVITY

- to make a connection between the text and the student’s general knowledge
about the topic
CLASS ORGANISATION: whole class activity

DIDACTIC STRATEGY: communication, eliciting

SKILLS INVOLVED: speaking, writing

ESTIMATED TIME: 10’

DESCRIPTION OF THE ACTIVITY:
Teacher greets students and writes the title on the board. This is followed by a short discussion about the
title, assuring that everybody understands the main idea. As a pre-reading activity, the teacher asks the
students to think about different inventions and write down in their copybook the process of their making.
As an example, the teacher writes a few ideas about the making of a book on the board. After the activity,
the answers are checked.
Students are now asked to look at the pictures next to the text and answer the questions on page 78, based
on their own knowledge, before reading the text.

ACTIVITY 2: WHILE-READING ACTIVITY

OBJECTIVE: to develop student’s scanning and skimming skills.

CLASS ORGANISATION: individual work , whole class

DIDACTIC STRATEGY: scanning and skimming techniques

DESCRIPTION OF THE ACTIVITY: Teacher revises the two reading sub-skills (scanning and
skimming) with the students and asks them to quickly scan the text and answer to the questions
from the pre-reading activity based on the text.
Teacher then distributes the gap-filling worksheet and asks the students to skim the text and
complete the gaps, extracting specific information. After the activity, the answers are checked.

ACTIVITY 3: POST-READING ACTIVITY
