CURRICULUM MAPPING & WEBBING

Prepared by: Balde, Andreane L. (III-2 BECE)

A. INTRODUCTION

Teaching is not teaching if there are no activities prepared by the teacher

and those activities are what makes learning very interesting and fun to students
especially to those who are kinder and grades 1 to 3.

For everyone’s information, preparing activities is not as easy as anyone

thinks, not for teachers. There are a lot of factors to be considered and with
Curriculum Mapping and Curriculum Webbing, they will show you that activities
can be based in either a very formal way or based on the students’ ideas.

B. LEARNING POST
a. Define what are Curriculum Mapping and Curriculum Webbing;
b. Recognize the role of both Curriculum Mapping and Webbing in the profession of
ECE teachers;
c. Demonstrate an example of Curriculum Webbing; and
d. Relate the concept of Curriculum Mapping and Webbing in integrating subjects and
creating a strategy in teaching to early childhood pupils
C. LEARNING EXPERIENCE
1. ACTIVITY

WEAVE A WEB

For this activity the class will demonstrate a curriculum web:

a. The presenter will group each class into 4 where each group will have
to pick one subject in preschool (Science, Math, English, MAPEH)
b. The presenter will give one core topic/theme
c. Each group must brainstorm about a certain activity for each subject
they have picked having the core topic as the main subject
d. After brainstorming, the group will demonstrate or explain what activity
they have finalized
2. CONTENT

CURRICULUM MAPPING

What is Curriculum Mapping?

 Matching learning outcomes with elements of the curriculum to create an alignment

between goals and learning opportunities.
 Helps identify gaps as well as opportunities for assessment.

EXAMPLE:

CURRICULUM WEBBING

What is Curriculum Webbing?

 A web that does not look like a traditional, linear lesson plan, but instead takes the ideas
and interests of the children into account.
 It begins with one very broad central idea and then branches out into several smaller themes.
EXAMPLE:

D. ANALYSIS

EXERCISE A

LEARNING CODE LEARNING ACTIVITY

COMPETENCY OBJECTIVES
EXERCISE B

In EXERCISE A, the students will choose two learning competencies (in any Kindergarten
subjects) together with their codes and they will create their own lesson objectives and activity
through that.

In EXERCISE B, through the use of the core topic (Pizza slice), the students will think of 7 possible
topics that could be integrated into it.

E. ABSTRACTION

Curriculum Mapping and Curriculum Webbing are both strategies that can aid
teachers of any grade to have an organize way of conducting the activities for the class,
Curriculum Mapping being based on the curriculum guide while Curriculum Webbing is
based on the students’ ideas and interests.
They might be on the different side of the coin but if teachers are trained well and
are aware of their expertise, mastering these two will contribute in their class and will help
the pupils learn more on the subjects meeting the objectives needed.

F. LEARNING POINTS
 Curriculum Mapping – used in curriculum development to align the desired
activities to the learning outcomes given by the curriculum guide.
 Curriculum Webbing – a student-approached strategy used by the teacher to get the
pupil’s participation in the lesson.
G. LEARNING CHALLENGES

The challenges I see as a future ECE teacher are the following:

1. For Curriculum Mapping, knowing the curriculum for each and every subject
and providing activities that will not only focus on the cognitive abilities of the
pupils.
2. For Curriculum Webbing, having different learners could really cause a bit of
confusion especially when you have to consider all of their interests in thinking
of activities for their subject, to make sure that the learners’ needs are addressed.
